Lol not to be a grave-digger or anything, but seriously, why do people want swimming implemented and everything else to suit THEIR tastes? I mean seriously, I personally do a bit of game programming as a hobby (still in school), and adding a WHOLE new system in about 2-3 months and expecting it to be amazing is just ridiculous. Yes, the gamers can decide to stop playing the game, and the makers have to attempt to please them, but stop asking for the impossible lol. If they are working on the swimming system/underwater battle right now, chances are they will have a decent system running before the official release.

Just my thoughts on some peoples comments lol.

The basics of swimming are already implemented, but really the only reason people wanted the basics of being able to swim was to add realism to the game. I do pretty much agree with you, though.

Gameplay emersion is what makes the game so sweet. Perhaps we could go back to the 2D sprites and recognize why all these visual and operational enhancements are neccessary. People want to experience a fantasy, and a good fantasy is a completely functional world, with it's own reality, opportunities and limitations. Being able to swim, jump, attack and defend in lifelike manners, communicate, and anything else in a game whether it be pivotal or simply viceral is a means to enjoy a fantasy, and modern achievements in technology are expected to be available.

Albert Einstein once said that once a mind grows, it can never return to it's previous size. Likewise, once the player base unviels a new gameplay element, they never want to go without it, reguardless of how small or viceral it may seem. Just watch, in 3 years, no 2 years, nobody will want to play a new MMO which does not have advanced character creation. They will be like, "What!?!?, I can't give my dude a huge chest and a tiny waist like Popeye, this game blows!".

It's not only about realism, it's about having other game possibilities besides aerial and ground. It's kinda ridiculous that a 2008 MMORPG doesn't have swimming implemented, and the fact that we can fly in game doesn't really work as an excuse to not present a solid under-water world, that I would tremendously like to explore.

I'm already there. Without advanced character creation I tend to get tired of the stock designs that are available. Especially if too many people choose the same face/hair/etc because they're the 'best looking' ones.

I actually already want free flight to be in every game I play as well. After playing a couple games that allow the character to have flying mounts (not just WoW), I really hope each upcoming game features this form of travel. It presents an extremely effective method for exploration and helps a character see how the area they are in fits into the larger world.

I wouldn't refuse to play a game that doesn't have either of these features, but I most certainly look for them. Luckily Aion will have both and should be claiming my attention for quite awhile.

Lol I agree with you that you MUST have new features or else your game won't be very popular, but if we are talking about realism, there's alot of things besides swimming they could implement. A good fantasy is a functional world? If we are talking about functional worlds, half of the things already implemented in the game don't really follow the rules of the world lol.

Luckily developers ignore people like this most of the time. Thank god for developers with a plan and a vision. It would be terrible if the dev's listened too much to players. Sometimes, sure. But not too often.

funny you say that, I've had friends say that about a couple of other MMORPGS/Console games before lol.
