I think 8 classes is fine. If there are too many, then it could be like FFXI.

When I played FFXI, finding party members was a disaster cause everyone had their own opinion on which classes were best for certain roles. For example when many people started thinking ninja was a better tank than paladin, us paladins were left lfg for a long time cause we got replaced by the ninjas which often made the party less effective than if they used a paladin.
Ninjas aren't the worst tanks btw, I'm just saying that paladin was no doubt the best tank and were at one point hard to level up because of this.

Anyway, this led to a lot of pointless arguments about which class was best for a certain role.

I definitely don't want things to get messy like that in aion.

shapeshifter of some sort, like a druid, be pretty sweet, also a necro, but from Diablo II where you summon like 15 skeletons and bone spears and stuff

oh and i want them to make the armor based off a samurai so i can LOOK, SMELL, TASTE, FEEL, and LOOK like a samurai.

After 2 years then anew class or skills or race should be introduced. Nothing too dramatic. I wanna see more of a shutdown type of class. I think it should have mainly DoT, mana stealing/sapping abilities, and most of its damage comes from the actions the opponent takes. Something along the lines of a mesmer from GW but with more pve options.

It would be awesome to have a gun kata type of class but I do not really see that fitting into Aion.

For people who are asking for a shape shifting class I think the ranger already has that if I am not mistaken.


I just do not want classes that completely un-balance pvp. Too many classes can be a bad thing.

Well I think that all the obvious classes that there should be are... (The first type is the dominant trait.)

Magic + Melee (NORMALLY in MMORPGs, Templars play this role. But NCSoft wanted to play storybook time, so...)
Melee + Magic (Dark Knight)
Melee + Support (Paladin)
Magic + Support + Melee (Red Mage)
Ranged + Magic (Magical Archer?)

Other ideas I had were things like Necromancers (or just general blood using), Undead Summoners, Bards/Musicians, Dancers, Gunners, Ninjas, Fencers (think Aion's Templar without the shield, but their strength would be in between that of Templars' and Gladiators'), and so on. Another idea I had was 'specific race-only classes'. Like maybe only Asmodians could be Necromancers and only Elyos could be Fencers.

Kismet, you emphasise a point that the rest of the arguement in this thread outlines -

In Aion right now, you have 8 classes

Tank, heavy melee dps, light melee dps, ranged, centralized caster, summoner caster, heavy healer, light healer.

When you start to mix and match these professions like you gave, you might as well just have each class be able to specialize into somthing with a "component" similar to another class.

Example, gladiators with short range instant cast spells that snare, knock down, or stun a target just out of their range, or a chanter who can regen mp from meleeing

A templar with the ability to pull and snare mobs at range, etc.

Lineage 2 added a new race (the Kamaels), and four new classes for that race based on gender. I think it sucks to add completely new races/classes, since it would require a reroll. Out of curiosity, does anyone know how well the new race in L2 did? Or did anyone ever cap with the new race?

I wouldn't mind new classes that branch off from existing classes. I predict that in between a year or two after release, the cap will be raised and a 2nd class choice will be offered. Something similar to what I've typed up below.
  • Warrior - Apprentice
    • Gladiator - 1st Class Choice
      1. New Upgraded Gladiator Class (Destroyer, Warlord, Tyrant, etc.) - 2nd Class Choice
      2. New Upgraded Gladiator Class (Destroyer, Warlord, Tyrant, etc.) - 2nd Class Choice
    • Templar - 1st Class Choice
      1. New Upgraded Templar Class (Paladin, Avenger, Knight, etc.) - 2nd Class Choice
      2. New Upgraded Templar Class (Paladin, Avenger, Knight, etc.) - 2nd Class Choice

...I like this idea because now there will be more than 8 class choices. Nothing wrong with having two tank classes or two buffer classes that have different characteristics and abilities, more strategic in my opinion. Right now we have four categories (warrior, scout, mage, and priest) that branch off and grant you 8 class choices. With this idea, we'd have a total of 16 classes, basically two of each type of class (tank, dd, healer, buffer, etc.) for different styles of gameplay.

Off-topic
Wouldn't it be cool if Spiritmasters had a choice in a year or two: 1) to continue as a regular Spiritmaster that can further evolve their elementals into a 5th or 6th stage , or 2) instead choose to gain the ability to merge elementals (wind + fire, wind + earth, wind + water, fire + earth, fire + water, etc.)...

Well im for the original 8 classes with talent trees in the areas of PvP, Survival and PvE. Where all trees can used for pvp and pve but give u the option of customizing ur char, without emphasis on going 100% in one tree. Talent trees that encourage build mixing.
