Race: Elyos

Instances/zones/etc

Ok, after seing what a joke AoC turned to be, i have to ask this. I know the instance/zone thing has been discussed in details, but I would like to know if anyone has info about intancing 'open world' zones? like if u get too many ppl in one area, instance of it is made.

Well the first Areas will be divided in "Channels" so it wont get overcrowded. Well in higher zones they all will be merged into one channel again

If your wondering if it'll be like Guild Wars, it won't. (Where the towns where all instanced)

Personally I'm glad it's this way, because instancing too many things takes away from the "worldly" feel of the game.

AoC was a joke? I didn't get to laugh, I never downloaded it.

Only in the first zones are instances of a zone made when the servers are being flooded with new players. After that first zone or two instancing is not employed, and instancing will probably be disabled after the initial rush.

Otherwise, there is only dungeon and mission instancing, like in WoW, you know? AION isn't GuildWars. You walk out of town in AION and the all the other players are still there. However, if you go to the Abyss, or otherwise use a portal to go somewhere, you will encounter a loading screen. Zones aren't completely seamless, but it's not a huge deal. Faster harddrives = faster loading.

This was discussed back in CBT2 and caused some "panic" aswell, luckily, beta testers and official response stepped calming us quite nicely.

I'm sure that most would appreciate any efforts to make your first, few impressions of Aion smoother. It's not something that is considered for areas beyond that, and it does not change how servers work in any other way. Aion is still designed as a game taking place in one, singleton world*.

* per server
Other than that, the world keeps being 90% seamless

i was kinda hoping for something like teon/franz/luna launches overcrowding all the way :P nvm, start zone only is instancing is acceptable i guess.
as for AoC - there are numerous complaints about ppl engaged in pvp switching instances on the run, which is definately not the experience im looking for.

oh and no need to explain me about wow/gw/etc, im only newb to these forums and aion

I think my favorite flaw in AoC is the fact you can change instances in the middle of a fight. I have some friends who are playing it and they say it is extremely annoying - you are about to kill someone and they hit a button to go into a alternate instance of the zone to prevent losing.

AoC seems to be nothing more than titties and blood to me, I'm a WoW player and a number of people I am not too fond of are switching to AoC. Why? My favorite line is the fact you can taunt another person in PVP, whereas in WoW there is a language barrier. Another person posted this exact same reason for switching to AoC on MMORPG's forum.

Alot of other things I've heard from personal friends have turned me off to AoC. The way the community is turning out isn't making it any more appealing either. Aion FTW!!! I hope.

Check out the AoCSource.com forums. It's hell compared to here. So yeah, Aion FTW.

AoC is just a filler game for me till Aion at this point. As far as multiple instances of the same zone, I'd imagine it'll be done like EQ2, which was really good in that aspect actually.

personally i hope to see a lot of instances, I mean I really do want to see the world be non instanced, but i think instances make the game more in depth with missions that have limitations on who can help

It's really hard for me to understand how a bunch of professional programmers and all the other people involved in AoC development, couldn't correct such a stupid feature as it is switching instances while engaging combat. Good game...

Cause they didn't test that, they didn't test many other things and I'm afraid some might even be game breaking, anyways, it's better than F2P games so Ima give it a try while waiting for my precious.

I think thats a huge flaw in a game that finished betas and is released.
