Castle Siege Discussion

Post anything here about sieges...How do you think they will do them? What weapons will be available How do you sign up? How many people can each clan bring? etc...

My guess is something similar to the siegeable housings in L2....For example Clan X owns a castle. Clan A decides they want to attack, so Clan A's leader register's his clan to attack. There is an announcement for both sides. A 1 hour timer starts where both clans have time to prepare for the siege. During the 1 hour countdown any other clans can sign up to either defend or attack. With 10 minutes before the siege registration closes. When the siege begins it will last for say 1-3 hours or something and after it is done, whoever was in control gets to keep the castle, and that mist sets in and there will be no more sieges for a few hours.

However I hope they limit each clan to something like 1 raid party (since epic RB's in the game are limited to 1 party, you shouldnt have to make a zerg clan just to compete at sieges).

Also I'm curious about the weapons, what kinds will be available, do they attack the castle gate/walls and/or enemy players? I remember reading something about you could craft them with abyss points. Anybody have any pictures of them?

I'm sure we will also learn whatever there is to know once CBT3 starts.

Hmmm ... that sounds like a good way to do it.

I always imagined it as a castle siege where there is no warning. Like real war. All of a sudden an army can turn up at your castle and you gotta organize your legion fast enough to defend it.

I think siege weapons would help breach the walls of the castle. Maybe catapults or siege towers?

I would like it better if the castle could be attacked at random like real war but it would suck to have to keep people around waiting and defending all the time. I dont like the idea as much but it will work better to schedual the battles some what. That way it can insure large and fun battles as well as not having to leave people on boring guard duty.

The thought of unnanounced random siege times is horrid to me , it would be completely random, any guild could form up at 4am and ninja it. The castles are also in an instance, which leads me to believe there is some type of registration system.

I would imagine catapults (I remember hearing that before). Siege towers would be pretty cool, but I think it would be hard to implement something like that. The only other siege weapons I've seen are in L2, they are kind of simplistic. A giant golem the size of 200 characters...pretty much as tall as the castle, that knocks the walls/doors down. You can buff it as a friendly, and a dwarf crafter has to control it. Theres also a hog cannon, which again is from the dwarf, and its just a giant cannon shaped like a hog that launches cannon balls at the wall. I would hope to see something more elaborate in Aion.

i guess when i first heard about castle sieges it sort of reminded me of planet side. I know it is completely different i just miss that game. if it was possible i would be way happy to have the strategy of warfare and battles for strategic points, but since the abyss isnt the whole of the game and people are going to be off doing other things a lot of the time it just is not practical. oh well.

are you sure about this? Wouldn't that be a little dodgy? I thought u could just walk past a castle and bask in its power, and even see it in the distance on the horizon if its big enough, not walk into an instanced area

there is no registration system. (thankgod)

After a successful conquer, there is a cooldown time you can use to have some peaceful time in that area, pve-ers canejoy its hunting grounds, etc.

After the cooldown period each fortress have any1 can freely attack it.



PPl can track enemies' movement by simply reading chat.

The castles themselves are instanced? I had thought previously that the Abyss may be instanced but it was proven otherwise... so if the Abyss isn't instanced...then the castles would have to be for Calindor's theory to be correct...but then how would Castle Seige's affect Server Balance (it's been said when one side has too many Castles...the Balur would then step in) if the Castles themselves were instanced?

Can someone clarify here?

castle aren't instance. if race clan have castle - all this race players can buy equipment from castle npc , tax go to castle holder clan.
