Meh I'm indifferent to the way they have the servers, I mean I'm in Alaska so half the time I'm on when most are in bed but I have no objections to what they're doing, just make a glorious game that I can play for a long time and I'll be happy

This is ridiculous...game launch 1 year after beta testing started, NCSoft will be lucky if I'm not involved in another game by then, since I've been waiting so patiently for Aion. Perhaps whats worse than having a buggy game is starting an early CB, creating a fan base and throwing delay after delay at them.
Regional servers is also a huge mistake. There is NO reason not to have international servers, dont say lag, someone connecting from overseas doesnt put anymore strain on the server than someone connection nearby, it might be more lag for that person, but with a good connection theres no reason to have connection problems. I'm even playing a game with a server located in Germany (but I guess thats closer to me than the west coast of North America is) with 0 lag.


I think the root of this delay problem is NCSoft not giving a **** about NCSoft Austin/EU (lineage 2 anyone). Even if games are attracting the western world, NCSoft Koreas paycheck is not affected by the success across the ocean...Failed business plan number 2. Aso another L2 syndrome...It seems like again it will be treated as 2 different games, like L2 is in Asia and North America/Euro. We will again have absolutely no say on whats happening with the game...any complaints/balancing issues we have with the game...to bad nothing can be changed, the newest patch/expansion was released 4 months ago in korea, and we arent going to get a different version from the one they have.

Open your eyes, act like 1 company, or the same failures will happen again.

*shrug* probably better that way, if you're going to be so impatient, do you really think gaming companies intentionally delay a game to antagonize you?? I'd rather wait the extra year, I have games I can play, oh wait there's also going outside and doing things as well *GASP*

Regional servers aren't a huge mistake, I'm sure there is logic behind the reasoning and besides things can change, that is their plan right now but who knows maybe 6 months down the line they decide to scratch that and make international servers.

Err, why does Lineage2 allow US and EU to play together and Aion not permit it?

You can seperate servers by zones but let any type of client play on any desired server jeez.

No point in an mmorpg if I can't play with the people I want to.

Then a simply IP ban of all Asia will do the trick. Just like the Korean L2 servers not allowing NA Ip's.

hmm... I think that splitting into international servers is a good idea. Just like above mentioned it will be a much better customer service for Europe because they will be better suited to accommodate different languages if problem arises. Also, since we are not going to have a lot of people from Europe on our servers, which means less people = less lag.

I have nothing against Europe playing with us, in fact it's fun to meet someone from a different country, but i think there far more pros to separate servers then cons.

The disadvantage is not being to meet your international friends; well it shouldn’t be that hard to sign up for them for US server then Europe server and problem easily solved.

I guess since most games do divide up EU and NA it doesnt mean much but for those of us that played lineage and some other games that allow, we have guilds already, we have contingents of EU already, we have 24/7 running guilds already and are used to that playstyle and used to playing with our friends from all over, big let down.

These arguments are quite flawed.

How does having a lot of Euros on American servers affect lag? Your servers won't be more empty without Euros, there will be less servers instead, and every server will keep filled. And I doubt PvP/Competitive guilds agree with you on liking empty servers.

The other possibility, Yakuzan, is that with split servers the customer service will improve cause people from brighton have access to Euro servers easier than what they'd have in America. If I have an issue in a NA server, as european I'll probably be calling NC Brighton. But like I said, the arguments aren't convincing yet, even if I'm trying hard to look at it from every possible perspective.

You’re kidding right? Last time I remember going into LA2 town with lots and lots of people it was a major lag. Anytime i log to MMORG at a particular busy time frame when lots of people log on = lag. It makes a big difference dealing with 2 mil people or 4 mil people even if u do have a larger group communication within company makes it so much harder to do.

It was major lag cause your computer didn't handle it well. I didn't have any lag at all in L2 towns when I bought my gaming computer. But it still doesn't have anything to do with euros, there will be the same ammount of people in your servers.

If anything, allowing open access to servers reduces lag, given the same population caps per shard are in place. 5k on a server from one location = 1 massive peak per day; 5k people from across the world = ~3 smaller peaks across the day. It actually works out quite well.

That being said, the big thing that'll restrict people is just latency of having the other region's server being further away.

Well, there's got to be a reason. If it's not technical, then perhaps if has to do with regional publishing. Or perhaps customer service (as you said - which I do think is a very good reason though why not have customer service in Europe and U.S.? There certainly are offices).

Could be with taxes?
