Question Poll: Gold Buying

I've been thinking about RMT in AION and how NCSoft could best combat it. It seems that the best way to permanently get rid of it is to drive the demand for it down. Obviously, if you go after the gold sellers they'll keep coming back. But if the demand goes down and it's no longer profitable then the sellers will move on to greener pastures.

There are a number of ways I can think of doing it, but the simplest (to my mind) is simply harshly punishing gold buyers with permanent bans. If people were afraid of being banned, they'd be less likely to buy gold.

However, this wouldn't work if it would drive away legitimate players who were turned off by the harshness of the measure. So I wanted to take a poll to gauge the community's opinion of it.

Edit for Clarification: I am referring to permanent bans, not temporary bans. They already do temporarily ban gold buyers.

For anyone posting anything along the lines of, "Why is gold buying so bad? They're just honest folk trying to keep up with the hardcore crowd!", refer here for my explanation.

People that buy kinah should be banned.
Whether they are banned or not is just the luck of the draw.

I was talking about permanent bans. I think right now they get a three day suspension. Plus I don't get the impression NCSoft's priority is going after buyers so much as sellers.

why?
what about someone who bought kinah from a source that obtained them through legit ingame means (no botting, acc sharing, and whatnot)?

I voted for "Yes. I would probably be banned." due to being banned even without buying kinah ^_^
It kinda makes you wonder, maby you should buy kinah anyway? If its the same treatment as not buying? See signature.

Going after buyers would hurt NCSoft too much. It's not so much the buying but what is done with the Kinah. If the Kinah goes to NPCs it is instantly taken out of the economy and the buyer is helping. If the Kinah goes to other players, then it is an economic problem.

The problem with Aion is there is too much free trade. Ie everything you need can be obtained via crafters. This keeps the Kinah in the market and adds up. What we need is more money sinks, ontop of cutting down the sellers. If we stop the spammers we have done nothing about the companies that don't spam. The ones doing the spaming are startup kinah sellers.

Meh.. honestly, if gold buyers buy gold, they should be stripped of what they bought. If they bought the gold and used it, they lose their item they bought it with.

However; theres probably a better way of banning gold sellers.. and thats at the source. Look for that guy who says "we have 21345k kinah in stock!" Just look for the guy whos carrying that, if its distributed among different characters, look for the ones that have high amounts of gold in their bags, and haven't spent much. Or have traded even amounts of gold to another char. Then follow that char to see who he trades to as well.

The 1 thing that erks me in any MMO are those F@ckin goldspammer/farmers. Tons of spam mail, chat screen cluttered with garbage spam. Block list full.

Personally they all need to go burn in hell.

No.

Its way easier to just put a lawsuit up, and block chinese IP's.

I think the buyers are the ones we're seeing spamming us - the ones with somewhat comprehensible names. I.e. victims of account theft.

The only problem with any banning: falsepositives, and of course the ones who deny it and go rampaging on the forums claiming innocence.

I'd normally encourage the bans, but this game has so many factors that would simply drive people to buy Kinah that I think banning would be too harsh.

I dont think they should ban the people purchasing Kinah they should just suspend their account for awhile 7+ days and then remove any illegally attained kinah they might have.

And if they do it more than once ban them...

But why would we leave because other people are lazy enough to buy kinah? lol

Gold buying and selling outside of the game's economy will eventually ruin the game. ALL god buyer and Seller must be ban.
