Now, I am definitely concerned about the content and mechanics in regards to what tastes it is being developed for. Is Aion going to be just another Asian grindfest MMO geared toward the Asian market (and Western Asia-lovers)? From what I've heard and seen so far it mostly looks like it has elements that appeal to both East and West (sorry for all the over-generalizations), and I think if they choose these elements well, that's definitely a plan for success. However, they have been holding closed betas for quite a while, all in Korea, and last time I checked we don't even know when us Westerners will be able to test the game and how much of it. How much input will actually come from us? I know these questions have been somewhat addressed here, and so far it looks like Aion is doing a good job of balancing these elements, but it still seems fishy that we don't (or hardly do) get to test a game that supposedly considers us an essential market. |

Didn't read through all the post. BUT. What do you consider a failure in game production in game market? I'd call it no commitment on behalf of community of the game. And Aion already has a huge fan community in US and EU. And mind that the game isn't even out yet.

Yame, I think that you're overrating the imput from players. No dev is gonna take player suggestions seriously enough to change a game, unless they are plain retarded since players have usually no idea about how a game works, now, suggestions and "what Id like to see in expansions", we can do that still.

Bugged quests? Aion was in closed beta dude. I doubt they will work on memory leaks that much, I also doubt they are a big problem...And they've been working on class balance nonstop.

Changes to content, balancing, etc...Betas are to find bugs, not change the game. The dev team is in charge of that.

Aion may fail due to ignorant consumers.

Also, I am not suggesting that devs actually take individual player suggestions to make changes to the game... of course not. However, changes DO occur in games as a result of mass-b!tching. This can be in beta or post-release. Wise developers will watch their markets. Yes, by the time players are testing a game, it is mostly finished and is unlikely to be changed in any major way, however if enough testers complain about certain aspects of the game it is wise for developers to take notice. Maybe the purpose of a beta is technically to just find bugs and glitches, but when enough testers cry about lack of content, ****** graphics, or class imbalance, it may be time for devs to reconsider these aspects of their game before releasing. I am no beta expert, but I am sure this happens to a degree... and if it happened more (for example, if AoC had taken their testers' complaints about lack of content and other issues to heart and delayed release in order to address them) we would probably see much more successful MMO's out there.
