Aion - Payment options

I much prefer a payment plan that just deducts a monthly fee from my credit/debit card. I don't like having to purcahse game cards to play games. Even xbox live's payment system bugs me, i have to pay once every 3 months or something like that. I just want to come home from work, skip night school, sit on my *** with a couple beers and some taco bell and play my game. I can't express the furiosity that would envelope me if I had gotten everything ready for an evening full of nothing but Aion and I had to go run down to the store to buy a time card.

It's NCSoft, not some 3rd party vaporware games developer

Now that we semi-officially know about the payment plan of Aion, anybody able to shed any light on what's with the rumors of micro-transactions are all about? If Aion does micros, I'm not even bothering with the game.

i think the point Felluah was trying to make was that (while it seemed fairly certain Aion would have a subscription based model) we have no official comment on the payment system, and this image confirms a traditional P2P structure...

if u all watch G4 interview about aion. They say that they have not pick out if its going to be a p2p f2p or a b2p. just cuz you people think its going to be p2p may mean its not going to be. your not p2p so if u all want p2p doesn't mean its going to be and plz stop doing Aion vs WoW cuz Aion is nothing like WoW ya that took ideas from WoW. So what it not going to be like WoW and so what if there a pic of aion on the box. Iv seen games that r p2p and have soemthing like that but it has some of it f2p pic on it to. Im not talking about that pic. plus i think the one on the left is guild wars and last i looked guild wars is b2p so buy it then its free to play.

I wasn't trying to kick off a F2P vs P2P argument - I was simply pointing out that in the absence of a an official statement, this appears to lend weight to what most of us were already fairly sure about - that the payment scheme is likely to be more like Tabula Rasa, than Guild Wars (hence the appearance of Tabula Rasa characters with Aion characters on the card)

The fact that they havent told us what the model will be yet is meaningless, we all know its going to be P2P just like L2.

You all know that F2P costs more if you aren't a 24/7 gamer and still want to achieve something in the game, but yea that GTC might be a hint for P2P.

i wouldn't read too much into those game card pictures: that's the image that NCSoft is using to advertise their games; i've got a promotional leaflet from Leipzig with that identical image on it. just in case yr not convinced: one of those characters is from Guild Wars, which is buy-to-play (ie, you buy the box once, then online is free): the character is on the game card when you can't actually pay to play GW.

personally, having looked at my bank statement, i'd LOVE Aion to be pay-to-play. i spend much much less on p2p than f2p games - and i'm not unusual. all the research into ARPU (average revenue per user) on f2p vs p2p indicates that the ARPU for f2p is much higher than p2p (see this article for a typical account) - clearly NCSoft knows this as well as the next games company, so i'm expecting an 'Aion will be f2p' announcement sometime prior to preview launch.

Its a little early to be making statements like that. Even if they say 100% there will be micro payments, its still too early to say because you know nothing about it. Micropayments can be anything. Extra emotes that not everyone wants, but some people can't live without. $1/emote. I'd buy em. Maybe its a tuxedo/wedding gown. Not everyone wants to get married in-game or have such garments. $5.

Now if its (and it won't be.) micro payments for leet items, super duper xp booster potions, or buying other players accounts, then you'll be able to make a judgment there, but as I said before, I think its too early to get the torches and pitchforks out.
