Aion - Payment options

Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere - or if it just sneaked past unnoticed.

During Mark's attendance at GC08, he had a nice photo stream of various snaps taken in and around and on the way to Leipzig. One of those photos was this;

60 day time card, new. on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

a 60 day game card, picturing characters from Tabula Rasa, L2 (I think), and Aion.

Isn't this hinting rather strongly that Aion's will be a monthly fee based game?

Of course it's going to be monthly payments. To think that it even has the chance to be free to play is to be completely silly.

yep we've thought it was monthly payments for a while now, but at least now we might have more reason to suspect game cards in addition to a monthly fee--which is what a lot of people had been hoping for ^^

QFT - If Aion being a AAA title goes FTP it's going to fail so miserably in NA and EU it won't even be funny.

MMOzine noted in their last Aion Article that the game has way too much polish for a F2P game. The graphics and game mechanics alone scream P2P (monthly fee).

I didn't suggest that it would be - it's just there's been no official announcement saying one way or the other if it's to be monthly fee, buy-once-play-free with an item shop.

I for on ewill be very happy as it is a monthly fee based system, as I think the other options will alter the gameplay too much.

Never thought it would be in another way. you can't expect a game of this magnetude come for free or with pay for items way. But if what you say is true, i loved to know the game fee will be the same of Lineage 2 and Tabula Rasa

Well, it does bring up a good point, though.

All the other games shown on that card are 14.99 a month to play. Aion hasn't "announced" its subscription plan, yet but if that same game card gives you 60 days to any of the shown games, it is now very safe to assume Aion will be the traditional 14.99/mo, otherwise buying the card would be cheaper than a month to month subscription unless it is "marked up" for convenience.

Ya there was never a doubt in my mind that Aion was gonna be P2P and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Ok, let's analyze this and use common sense for a second. Aion is a far too developed mmorpg to be f2p. Now a lot of older mmo's are 9.99 a month, but again since it has a lot of backing behind it(developer and fan base wise), it will most likely cost more. Now the common trend nowadays is 14.99/month subscription based fee. Will this most likely be the case? probably. Since WoW is already 14.99 and it's the most popular mmo, it'll probably try and compete with the same price. And let's be realistic ncsoft isnt stupid enough to go over the 14.99 mark.

so in tl;dr conclusion, it will more than likely be $14.99/month
