Transportation (Mounts / Teleportation)
Alright, another thread.
Another interesting aspect of Aion that would have to change in comparison to other games is the discussion of mounts, and also that of teleportation. Basic topic starters: Because we can fly, we do not really need mounts, do we? Because we can fly, teleportation would take out some of the fun, would it not? My stance: I see the only worthy mount is one that is ridiculously fast and ridiculously expensive or difficult to obtain. I do not believe teleportation has a role in Aion, as flying is a major aspect and the inclusion of teleportation would take away from one of the game's most distinct features. The only time I see teleportation as necessary will be in instances, and/or to travel to places unreachable via flying. Your opinions? PS: Make sure you realize that multiple votes are possible. The options are confusing, so I made sure of this. Last edited by Myz; 11-19-2006 at 01:38 PM.. |

Arrrrrh i see i sparked a new topic something untouched! Well in some instances i think mounts would be pretty cool to have, say for instance something to help in the fight against the dragons. If there was mounts then there should be a mount that is able to traverse land and the sky. A creature that would suit this would be something like a griffon. Even a mount that could swim, i think they should only be used for getting to places on the ground that isnt possible by flying, something like a dense forest or cave.

Mounts no. Wings would pretty much get you from A to B faster, which is what mounts typically do.
Teleportation yes. With a large enough world map (and to sustain player interest I would expect it to be huge) it would not be practical to fly to leveling grounds. Unless of course the game designers have cunningly structured it, such that you naturally progress from area A to area B as you level up, and rarely go back to area A. And I'm really not fond of running for 10 minutes just to get to a leveling gruond, even at a decent speed. |

I thought the way WoW did teleportations worked quite well. Which was you could set your heartstone(teleportation device..thing) to a certain inn and you could teleport there every hour. Was useful if you wanted to get to a main city or something fast. Some classes also had teleport spells, and there were also a couple of hard to get hold of teleport items.

yes flying is great. But imagine thick long forests that you have to run through and find items or monsters or even something for your quest. Being full flight in air won't allow you to see under the thick brush of trees. (If theres something of that sort in the game ) Mount's would be great for those kind of purposes. Even running through underground caves.

I think if they are to put mounts in the game it should be dragons that we tame. Kinda like L2 but not as crappy maybe one that runs 4 or 5 times faster then we can and one that can fly faster. The key thing with the mounts would be we can use them for both transportation and PvP.

wings will null the need for mounts but for long travel and be sure this is a game from nc soft so the distance you travel from place to place will be great and a mount that cuts that time in half or more would be great. I just want them to be you would have to train them to get one and only you can use the one you train that way people can create a overpriced market on them

From the videos I've seen of flight, the rate of movement is pretty fast. Due to the speed at which airborne characters move, I'm hoping that the world will be large enough that allowing teleports is still feasible, otherwise the world will feel like a box.
Long flights might require the flier to rest his or her wings periodically, thus making overseas travel still require some sort of flight-capable mount, ships, or teleportation. |
