Wing Developement

So i was thinking....for once...

Ok here is the idea. At level 1, you get the Fledgling's Wings(or some other newby style name.) these wings let you fly, but only at 1/3 of max speed, and only maybe 1/3 as high as the flight roof, cuz unfortunatly there HAS to be a roof, or BOOM! goes the server.

Anyway, at level 10/15 you get the Beginner's wings, or some less newby name. These let you let you fly at 1/2 speed, and at 2/3 max altitude and do all the acrobatic loopedy loops and corkskrews and other stuff, but just not as perfect as the higher versions.

Then at 20/25 you get Flyer's wings which let you go full altitude, but 3/4 speed.

Finaly at 40, you get the Angel/Demon/Uber/(insert wickedly cool name of your choice here) wings, that let you go full speed and full hieght.

This would keep the newbeis out of "restricted airspace" and also prevent them from accidently flying in to a pack of Super Steroid DragonHornetRavenVultures that eat your face.

Interesting idea. Combine this with customizable wing designs (colors, ornaments, etc.), and you might have an idea wroth publishing. Of course, Studio 5 might have already thought of this.

GOD I would love customizable wing designs -_- Color variation/pattern, ornaments, style (different birds have different wings, though still within the same category), perhaps even size.
That would fecking ROCK.

Hmm... Thats a really really good Idea.
Maybe with the first level, you can only glide. You can't actially take off (like in the old PS1 game: soul reaver) Then second level you can just begin to take off and gain a little altitude. Then by the end of that level you can reach 1/3 height, so you're always progressing.

Its one of my concept ideas for a game design I've been working on on and off for the past 2 years. The wing development pretty much does what the OP posted. Shame ill never make the game though

Wow. Thats a very good design, but the level 20-30 dont look like they could glide, let alone fly. The rest of them, Especially level 70...Wow. Its very good. 9 out of 10. You should try to add those to like a new unofficial ideas pictures screenshot page.

Whoah... color me impressed! (and when it comes to graphics, it takes a fair bit) Very nice job there
Once I get my design brief over with (that would be in about 2 weeks time), mind if I might take a crack at some coloring, just for fun?

Anuxinamoon, do you think they should have the aureole?... seeing that the concept of christian angels isn't exactly the same as Aion's angels' concept.
But I can't really get into that because it would break the forum rules <.< (and to think that religious discussions are my favorite kind of discussions :P)

It seems like a very good idea to me, and would be awesome if it'd get implemented, or even patched in after release. I really hope that some of the devteam reads this and thinks its a good idea aswell and they atleast discuss it.

Yup, these concepts arent for aion, but for a personal project of mine, but the theory behind them is similar to the OP's ^^

I'd like to see enhanced customization as you level. Actually looking at christian angels, which I understand are different from NCSoft's, but are worth noting as a starting point, the seraphim (highest choir) have six wings, which would mean that logically that's the kind of wing the highest level would have. Naturally, 6 wings can easily be more detailed/ornate than 2, but I personally am not a huge fan of the whole multi-wing look.

So, what I would like to see is as you level, you don't get new wings, you just unlock more customization. So, similar to Anuxinamoon's link, the overal design gets more elaborate, but in addition to the just increasing size/number of wings I'd like to see things like jewels, armor, etc. Now, someone could argue that putting armor on wings isn't a practical idea because it would limit the motion or weight or blah blah blah, but it a magical world it's completely feasible, and it would look damned cool.

Short version: higher level = more CHOICES, not just a static "upgrade" so basically I agree with PZeplin

I believe every level should be equally customizable, but more wings at each level makes sense. It can be justified much easier, too. But that's just me.
