Sad reality of computer games are hackers, in this case botters. No matter how hard you try, they will always have a present. Its up to the devs on how hard they crack down on this issuese.
WoW, even to this day has gold sellers and its meant to be the best mmo out there. So it doesn't really give me a great shock to learn botters will make an appearance on Aion. Khan __________________ Divine

Thinking if a game would force me to "epicfarm" myself to stay competitive, I can see why people use bots instead of wasting their time on the ridiculously senseless part of the game. You have to keep in mind that not everyone is willing to spend hours each day on repeating monotonous and gameplay-wise very poor actions, just to be able to play the enjoyable and rather than anything else, meaningful part of the game (and if not before, you'd finally realize how broken those are if you take away the grind and the illusions of the system).
In fact, this is the exact reason why the major part of bots are used in the first place - to avoid gameplay-wise poor and monotonous actions or in other words, grind. Also, I can make fun of epicfarmers, in other words people who like weak and very easy gameplay connected to monotonous actions, thinking they're the "hard working" one's without having to use a bot. I don't even know where this "hard working" might come from. Maybe from it being hard to bear ridiculous gameplay for three hundred days of playtime? Then again, you could just have that from doing assembly line work in a factory and get money for it instead of paying. Sure, there wouldn't be flashy effects from casting fireballs, but then again, as a "real MMO gamer" who makes his motivations based on illusions in the first place you should be able to imagine as much. interesting. So game guard is the security software. It is easiest security to bypass these days. They better have good anti-hack system... It better not turn into another hacker/bot mmo
There is only one game so far I know, who has managed to get rid of all rwt. It is RuneScape. No matter how people say what a bad mmo it is. They are the ones who managed first to get rid of all the rwt, out of the bunch. Doubt NCSoft will go that far as they did. But I hope it will be much better. At least in L2 I could down them whenever I came across one. But of course you cannot do that in Aion as the non pvp area will be bot full. I imagine that stigma stones will be the most expensive items in the game. Last edited by evilslime; 11-26-2008 at 06:22 AM.. |

Not true. Server sided protection is efficient, while client sided protection would be bypassed in the first week after release (especially if it's an already known product). Also, they're going to have to create a special task force the way they've chosen their game to be like, because there are going to be bots in Aion, since there's technically next to no difference to the majority of MMORPGs (there is a PvE grind based on the dice-system, you can get max level and farm items through just doing this and that's already enough of a reason for many people to bot) and I doubt they'll be limited to a few.

VGM's?
if possible, i would like to become a VGM for Aion.
Im tired of asking GM's in other games to come and ban a bot when they are never on. considering i play 2moons, which has a really bad problem with bots/hackers, i dont want to waste my time in another game just to feel like it was for nothing. im one of those players who can play for hours on end and if i can help rid the game of bots, that would make my time feel well spent. maybe they can compensate VGM's with free monthly access to their non-VGM character during the time they are a VGM, on the liability that they log onto their VGM char everyday for at least 4 hours and do something worthwhile. a.k.a LAY DOWN THE BAN HAMMERif there are no VGM positions, i would like a DETAILED list of what proof any player has to present to get a bot/hacker PERMANENTLY banned. and by permanently, i mean PERMANENTLY where they cant cry and threaten to sue if there is definite proof that they violated the ToS. i dont want to see Aion go to crap when it has so much potential. who is with me? :3 |

lawl, the only things that Kain ruined on Liona was RPers community.
I can swear some time ago I was reading that Aion should have great antibot protection, guess not If they'll have half of L2 bots in Aion, it would much worst than L2. In L2 you could at least kill a bot. Won't be happening in Aion since you can't attack your own race. All you'll have to do is watch a bot attacking your mobs. GameGuard is a joke. I was playing L2 for last year with a hack that disables GameGuard completely because it did nothing for me but random crashes of the game and was causing lag. In the latest update for L2 they implemented "bot report" button for players. Did they add same button to Aion? I don't think so. If they want to keep bots away from the game they need active GMs in the game at all time. Another way to prevent bots is to make most of the drops "bind on pick up" type of soulbound. All raid drops should be 100% bind on pick up. Greatest percentage of bots are used by farmers not some lazy players who don't want to level (specially in fast leveling game like Aion). If farmers won't be able to farm raid drops and ebayers won't be able to buy top end items then bots would move to more profitable games. |

You will never get a 100% bot free game even the best out there get them. But its what they do once they've found people botting thats the best part. Instant account ban will deter alot of people from botting just because they wont want to spend another $30 or £30 buying a new copy or if they did once you can be sure they woldn't bot again or it gets expensive. Only the gold farmers would be the type to risk account bans because they make enough money to cover the cost of getting new CD's for new accounts.
As long as they have serverside third party software dection programs running and ban people for using this software no one will complain about the few bots that might be in the game. But if they let the bots run riot showing the rest of the community they don't care then it will be a major issue. Major being, losing alot of players bots will be the only ones playing. |

Well isn't the level cap at like level 50? If so, then who cares if they use bots? They're just gonna reach the cap sooner, and when they do they won't have anyone to play with to do endgame content. They're probably going to just wait for everyone else to reach 50.
If the entire game is just loaded with bots on the other hand, that's a different story. I kinda of find it dinky how korean games can't seem to get rid of bots for the majority of their gameplay. Maybe if they implement a system where it actually takes some coordination and cooperation in order to progress leveling even faster. Anyways, the faction based system should be able to solve some of these problems. They won't be botting for long if they're getting killed by angry Asmo's or Elyo's. 1) To gain xp 2) To farm (sell through websites/ebay/etc) As for 1): - I obviously don't condone this... but whatever. In L2 I cared more because to get to lvl 85 manually is... "impossible". I look at Aion's leveling curve like Warhammer's. Everyone will reach it eventually. For 2) - This is what makes or breaks a game's economy. L2's retail server economy is ran by the farmers. Without them, everything would be immensely overpriced and no one would be able to buy anything. Also, this is a faction based game. Botters will have an easier time here than they will in L2, because in L2 anyone can kill anyone (with ramifications of course). |
