I would like to repeat myself again....just in case I didn't make it quite clear.
See the recipe this guys is talking about here for the first part of the Expert Quest? Quote:

Well my lovely dears, I say again, it just took me 24 attempts to craft this item and get the proc Noble version for the quest. Yes, that's 24 attempts. As I said, I had full 4000 DP during each and every attempt. It still took 24 attempts. It cost me just less than 6 million kinah just to buy all the Flux and Greater Elemental Stones I needed. Don't even get me started on how long I had to gather Aether Gem for.... |

to seed more confusion:
you must make a few crafts that are impossible to crit and then craft the book. since you didn't crit befor you "stack up" craft crit and have a much higher chance to crit the book then. *caught* *hides in a corner* __________________ nyerk nyerk |

i still stand by the theory that max DP doesn't help you to crit

I actually made a profit from merching the 23 Durable Truth Orb's that filed to crit. Each attempt cost me approximately 191,000 kinah to craft and I merched each one for approximately 230,000 kinah.
I made sure to keep the cost of Flux down to 2-3k each, the cost of Greater Elemental Stones to 300 kinah each (or less), and I gathered all my own Aether Gem. If you do it this way, you won't loose kinah, you will actually make it. I have posted a few tips about how I was able to keep the cost down here. |

Buying over the whole market of say fluxes will only make you spend a lot more than you could. Market shares of mastercraft goodies is so limited that is can be easily manipulated and exhausted. Having 20M in your pocket you can literally buy the whole market. But it will only increase price to insane level in addition to making you the idiot buying for 2x+ times more kinah than you could. Collecting some materials youself will make time lag that other suppliers will use for that price reduction. |

I totally agree, taking your time is the only way to turn a profit at this task.
Like with anything, if you have the time to spare then you'll spend a lot less kinah than someone else who is in a hurry and wants to "buy" their way to a quick quest reward I just played the broker a little bit and bought any Worthy Fine Weapon Flux that I could find for around 9k each, then I morphed those into 3 of the Fine Weapon Flux I needed. This brought the overall cost of each flux down to around 3k each. It just took a bit of patience to wait for flux at the right price to appear in the broker. While I was waiting I gathered Aether Gem and crafted Greater Elemental Stones (my friend gave me a pile of Zeller Aether Jelly to get DP fast so that helped a lot). Sure, it took me 2 days of my evening play time to finish the quest, but I don't think that's unreasonable. I even made an overall profit of well over 800k so I'm not complaining. I'm talking about the first Expert Quest, however, I don't know about the second as I haven't tried it yet. |

@ warpy - Clearly I have to explain my (very) brief post somewhat. The value on an item is not decreased by you yourself gathering it over buying it. Any material you use has a worth equal to what you could (reasonably) sell it for. Of course buying out the Broker on a certain material can be foolish, unless you have a insane amount of Kinah at your disposal, but the fact is buying from the Broker is going to happen unless you're a complete plum. Personally buying out certain markets and playing the Broker with a variety of characters nets me around 3-5Mil Kinah profit per day. That is factoring a market cost value to every material, including those I gather myself (I'm 399 in both Vitality and Aether Gather btw).
I started my Expert Alchemy Quests about a week ago, in all honesty I wasn't going to bother for a long time, and just wanted to leave the profession on the final Quest before getting Expert Tailor. However NCSoft then inform me that you can only have one Expert Quest Line active at a time, so I was kinda forced into finishing it. Last night I hit Expert, though the expense compared to the payoff makes me die a little inside. Anyway, the point is you are fooling yourself if you think that you are "saving" money by gathering instead of buying, if I craft 100 potions with gathered materials, the profit is identical to that of crafting them with bought materials. Finally, also consider that spending an excessive amount of time gathering can take a massive hit on your levelling (if you're not 50 already), that's the other reason I mostly buy stuff, as when out in the world I'd rather be getting to 50 than pick up even more flowers (says the guy with both gathers at 399 >.<) ------------------------- Oh, one other thing, Perento sucks donkey balls for market manipulation as well in all honesty. Profit margins are generally low and optimal profit products change nearly every day, this can be pretty much directly attributed to the sheer number of bots/gold farmers we have (pretty sure this applies for all EU servers, not sure about the US ones obviously). Tons of bots gathering 24/7 and then selling both materials and potions/scrolls, making it very time consuming to compete (and somewhat risky), added to this it would appear that the other real players also gimp the market due to them knowing that they can't compete with the bots. Another thing I think they should do is make some changes to Alchemy, potion and scroll recipes above skill 400 would be a good start, just having Recovery Potions/Serums is ridiculous in my opinion. At the moment the biggest instant HP pot is a mighty 1410, the next step up is the Abyss Points purchased ones at around 2k and then the Life Crystals at 5. I don't think it would be unreasonable to have something around the level of the Abyss ones, though what mats to use would be a bugger to work out. Another thing I'd like to see is the ability to crit on pot/scroll crafts, with the crit version being effectively 50% better effect than that of the standard craft, if that was made available only to Experts it would certainly be a step in the right direction for the profession I think. its easier to get money than it is to gather...there i said it.
time to gather vs. time to make money/lvl...and if you're high lvl gathering stuff that doesn't grant xp is just horrible time management..all for an item that is gonna be rendered useless in 5 lvls anyway..the game promotes rushing to lvl 50 and THEN enjoying the game. all lvl dependent games operate in this manner. __________________ buy high, sell higher |

I need some help (friendly advise)
Currently I have 399 in Alchemy, and did the first expert quest which wanted me to craft a item 18x. Which I have. After handing in the quest, i havent received any more quests. At first i thought it might be because i was also doing the armorsmithing expert test, and could only be on one expert quest. Now I have completed Armorsmithing, so I again tried to pick up the expert Alchemy quest - but still I just cant pick up any quest. Is anyone else stuck at 399, or have an idea how to proced? Many thx in advance. |
