Aionsource - A New Beginning
Aionsource - A New Beginning

Authentication

Well good morning, or afternoon should that be the case, my lovely cherubs and welcome to the new AionSource.

As we mentioned last week the powers that be have decided it's time for us to move from vBulletin to IPBoard. Thus the shiny sparkles that are littering the ground everywhere ;)

Now this change means different things for different people, Joe Blogs will probably go "oh... new skin?" while Chalky is currently hunting me down with an axe trying to find his Mod panel ._. That aside though there are a few changes to the way of life that I'll try to explain to make this change as easy as possible.

We're now utilizing the Curse.com authentication system for logins, those of you new to it will need to follow these instructions if you get stuck:

New to Aionsource? Only have a Curse account?

Sign in using your Curse credentials and follow the on-screen prompts.

Sign in with your Curse information and your Aionsource account will be automatically associated to it.

Please be aware that your Curse and Aionsource account emails must match or the system will simply make a new Aionsource account.

You can update your Curse.com email here, it's essential they match if you want to save yourself some grief.

Don't have a Curse account and need to migrate your Aionsource account?

For most this will go fairly smoothly, hopefully. Simply login with your Aionsource account information and a Curse.com account will automatically be generated for you. If your Aionsource login name is unavailable as a Curse account name you will receive a prompt asking you to choose a new one. This new account name will be used whenever you need to enter your credentials on our site however you will keep your current display name here at Aionsource.

The shiny IPBoard version of Source comes with a few cool little features and the odd thing you may want to change, from improved social features to musical profiles the new site adds some interesting functionality along with the new look.

We're hoping to add new features to the site in the future along with modifying the odd thing here and there should the community request it, by all means if you find something that's broken or doesn't look quite right don't hesitate to tell us. Site Feedback will most likely have a thread up for that purpose when I find a spare minute.

Also for you early birds that are reading this moments after it's posted please don't be alarmed if you suddenly hear someone grumbling in a corner somewhere or forums you've never seen before suddenly pop up. That's more likely than not me running around, hopefully not headless unless Chalky caught me, updating all the forum settings for this sparkly new forum ;) As previously mentioned feel free to let us know if we miss anything!

Be sure to clear your cache prior to reporting any bugs or anomalies to ensure you're running on the latest version of the site, should your browser encounter any issues running the site itself you may wish to ensure you have the latest version. (FF 3.6, IE 8.x, Safari 4.0.5)

We hope you like the new layout and don't forget it's double XP this weekend!

All the best,
Cynic - See what I did thar?

Update Notes:

  • Login Authentication bug should be fixed.
  • Redirect loops should be gone.
  • Investigating a registration bug, unable to reproduce at this stage. Possible cause of registration/migration bug for some users may have been found, will be addressed shortly. Hopeful for a quick fix. Possible fix applied for Registration bug, awaiting user feedback.
  • Shoutbox should no longer be appearing for users.
  • Blogs should now be accessible.
  • Categories cannot be viewed directly, looking into that. Doesn't effect functionality though so low priority.
  • Youtube videos embedded previously are now just text, they will be fixed in the near future. URLs posted from now on will embed as per usual though.
  • Aion-themed emoticons will be re-added tonight. Readded.
  • Gallery should now be accessible.
  • Report feature fixed.
  • Edited By: field is unstyled, will be fixed in the near future. Updated.
  • Some additional user profile fields missing, investigating.
  • Old PMs may be marked as unread and shuffled, looking into it.
  • As requested unread threads will now display in bold text for greater visibility.
  • Manually uploaded an entire new series of emotes, former tacky (white border) emotes have been removed.
  • Browser freezing with conversations fixed.
  • Emails default to hidden now.

Note: Keep an eye out for layout changes, we're expecting the visual appearance of the forum to change a bit between now and early-mid next week

AionSource Contest- Design an Aion Magazine Cover, with an Aion Magazine Subscription!
Hey everyone-

It's about time for another contest and Ayase has been nice enough to supply us with 10 full-year subscriptions to the new Aion magazine to give away. Now, in normal AionSource tradition, it won't be as easy as dropping your name in a hat and hoping. No, we like to have some fun with our silly little contests, and this one is no different.

Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to create an Aion Magazine cover. Now, this doesn't have to be for THE Aion Magazine. It can be your own creation, a spoof on a popular magazine- whatever you like. 10 winners will be selected from the entries on Monday, March 15th.

Here's a fun little example by yours truly:

Posted Image

Rules:

  • Your cover must be Aion related. It can be a unique design or a parody of an existing magazine. If choosing to parody, name it something different, even if it's a play on words. Examples: Atreia Geographic or Elyos Digest.
  • PG-13! Please keep your covers clean of bad language or suggestive content.
  • You can use ANY method to create this cover. Photoshop, Illustrator, Online magazine cover generators, etc but it must be your OWN creation.
  • You may use official screenshots and artwork or your own personal screenshots and artwork.

The contest begins at the time of this posting and goes until Sunday, March 14th at 11:59pm central. Please post your entries in this thread.

If you lack design software or the skill to use it properly, there are a few online resources you can try:

BigHugeLabs Online Magazine Cover Creator (Easy to use, decent results- my cover above was made with this.)

U. R. CELEB free trial through Download.com (Save is disabled, so you may need to take a desktop screenshot ((CTRL+Print Screen)) to save your creation.)

Front Page You (I'm getting errors with this through FireFox, but it's worked before. Perhaps its just a glitch right now)

Prizes:

10 winners will receive a 1 year subscription to the Aion Magazine as well as an exclusive AionSource title:
Paparazzi.

Good luck and have fun! Bonus points for humor ;)

Greetings Daevas,

Several members of the Aion team, including yours truly, will be rifting to San Francisco later this week to show off Aion on the GDC show floor. If you're in the area and planning on attending the show, seek us out, we adore hearing from our fans. If you can’t make the event but live in the area, feel free to follow our whereabouts with Foursquare. If you manage to track us down, we might even have some goodies for you!

I am working on getting the patch notes pulled over to AionSource for convenient viewing, but in the mean time, take a look here for the official translated article!

I'll post more once I've had a chance to go through them and get them up here.

What's your favorite part?

Anything sticking out that you're unsure of?

These are some exciting changes, so let's discuss!

EDIT: Cori from AionHun found some more information about the new zones and wings coming in 2.0! Head over to his thread to view the maps!

Aionsource - A New Look
AionSource - A new makeover, a new look.

Posted Image

Well my lovelies, the time has come for AionSource to have a hammer and chisel taken to her beautiful face, sculpting her in a new style with fun features to play around with :D

Unfortunately, there have been some database issues over the last few weeks (read: 404/504 errors) which have turned out to be far more serious stability-wise than we originally thought. This has forced us to push forward a project to move AionSource from vBulletin software to that of IPBoard.

While all fansites in our lovely little network were scheduled for this change, we still had a month or two to go, but alas website stability comes first :D

Now admittedly it will take some getting used to, although you'll find a few neat little toys around and about the site that aren't here in vBulletin, not to mention if you keep an eye out you might see some of our mods running into walls with the new software before chasing me with an axe! ._.

There are some things to keep in mind, so I'll try to detail as much of that as possible.

Firstly, the new system will finally tie us, far overdue technically, to the Curse.com ID system. Basically, this means you'll be logging in with your Curse ID rather than the one you have here. For the majority of you that already have accounts, after the transfer is complete when you attempt to login with your current details a prompt will arise.

  • If you already have a Curse account with an email address matching your AionSource account, log in and they will be automatically linked.
  • If you do not have a Curse account and the user name does not already exist with your current Aionsource account's name, then it will automatically be created saving you the hassle before sending you on your way.
  • If the user name is not available on Curse you will be prompted to choose a Curse account user name.
  • When associating a Curse account with your Source account, they must share the same email. If this is not possible (inactive old email or something to that end), please feel free to contact us and we'll sort it out for you.
  • You will keep your current display name (the name that everyone sees you posting with now) regardless of your Curse ID. This display name is currently editable, with some restrictions, although that is subject to change.

Secondly if you're among the first to login after the transfer, you may notice a few oddities like forums you've never seen before in the Index, exploding birds and random angry rants from me about forum settings among them. Try to ignore that.. or at least don't laugh at me too hard. ;) Should you notice any overly troubling things, feel free to comment in one of the news threads regarding the subject (like this one) or in Site Feedback.

Update: The transfer has been temporarily delayed due to some technical difficulties, we'll update you when the tech department provides us with any information besides that.

Thanks for your support and my pre-emptive apologies for the next couple days. I may be slightly more... stressed (read: Birdman-esque grouchy) than usual rewriting resources and setting things up. All complaints can be forwarded to my lovely secretary Snoozle who will most likely put you on hold.

All the best,
-Cynic
