i think i am the only person on these forums that has played Phantasy Star Universe, but there is a very similar feature in there. each character has a apartment of sorts for others to come in, or if they arent there to leave a msg. u can also lock your room if u dont want random joe's walking in all the time. and the best part to me is that u can set up a shop from your room and ppl can actually search the shops and go and buy stuff from you. it takes care of the need of an auction house and spam trading. i REALLY look foward to what is in store if Aion will have similar feature(s)

Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm a Phantasy Star fan right here.
Another thing to note about those rooms in PSU is that they're barely ever used except setting a shop. Sure my friends and I usually meet in my room before we go partying. Other than that, it's just there for the visuals.

Also a problem was raised in Aion's housing system is that there may be a shortage of land. PSU's housing didn't require any kind of 'land'. It's instanced if you may put it that way. You can enter it by walking into an elevator in a particular area or by touching a universe cube. In other words you don't actually get to walk past all the doors of the rooms. Instead you choose which room you want to go to and you're there. As far as I know, this is the best solution if you don't want to have a shortage of land and that everyone is equal when it comes down to location of the house.
Otherwise you might need to create a 'land' outside the normal area that expands as more places are filled?

Save for games where you actually build a house most games use instanced housing (EQ2, FFXI just to name 2). I don't think would be any different in that regard, if player housing is added.

I've played PSU *holds up hand* I had my lil apartment with my lil robot dude...

Anyways, yeah it will most likely be instanced. But that's not to say that there won't be a designated place for those instances to be. Like a 'residential area' (FFXI reference). Then of course in EQ2 they had apartment building places, you click the door and whisked away to an instanced home.

TBH I imaged it as a softly lit room, with most furnature made of wood or stone - not much shiny stuff. Just something you'd describe as "cosy"

I think if there are goining to be houses then they should be different depending on where your house is situated, such as if its near a volcanoe the house should be made of obsidian and also you should have the ability to preform certain afk emotes in theres terains such as roasing a marshmallow abow lava or even kicking the wall and then grasping your food in pain; also houses near the water you should have and afk emote such as howering over water with your wings
