Asmodians to depressing ? :)

I for one wanted to go to the Asmodians side. I always thought that if you walk in a dark world all the time you will feel not very happy. I thought it was just a crazy idea of myself till I suddenly saw in a dev interview from warhammer the following:

Take the chaos side for one, people don't like being in dark areas all the time without any " happy " environments. In warhammer they inserted funny things on the dark side like the good classic farts to make you laugh.

Cause to be honest I didn't saw any idea for Aion. I don't even think they even thought about the fact people will get a bit depressed / don't like running around in shadows all day long fighting dark things, talking to dark npcs etc. I have seen a lot of pics from the dark side and well they were very nice to see don't get me wrong but to play day in day out in a dark environment after your work / school / other real life matters ?
Maybe subconscious Reqiuem failed this way

This has nothing to do with being sensitive or other crap just plain logic sense.

Any comments about this would be appreciated ^^

Cheers

I think it's also depressing/boring to walk in an environment with just bright colours and sunny weather all the time without any changes.
In the endgame you'll be in the Abyss all the time and while fighting against the other race i dont care about how bright the environmet is.

The Asmodian's half of the world isn't really depressing. It's dark and beautiful. Lots of pretty stuff to see.

One my familiar beta tester said something like this: "The world of Elyos is the place were you want to live. Asmodians world is the place which you want to leave as soon as possible". And I completely agree with him. Too depressive - both music and design. Too grey. Too desert like. Yes its atmospheric at the first sight. But when you play for a long time in such locations it becomes borring and bleak. just IMHO. I prefer to spend my low levels in pleasent atmosphere.

p.s. asmo locations generate envy and hate for elyos bright and friendly world. may be designers wanted to to achieve exactly this effect Leave depressive pve zones and kill them all in the Abyss and in elyos pve locations through portals ))

I don't think it's depressing at all. I think both areas look cool and interesting.

It just depends on what sort of character you want to play. Not all interesting characters come from the land of sunshine.

The landscape, or overall the world of the Asmo is the only reason why I wont play them. The characters look awesome and their gear is more appealing to me than the Elyos' (from what I've seen), but the world is just not mine. I wouldn't say that it's depressing/boring without having it experienced, but if I had to chose between a cherry tree and a dead tree, I'd always chose the brighter one (although I must admit that the snowish area of the Asmo world does look appealing to me, but from all what I've seen, it's the exception). Many games have proved that this depends entirely on personal preference though.

It realy is a personal preference see one of the the things most appealing to me is the asmodian landscape. Im not realy in to all that bright beautiful stuff the elyos have going on in there land its to bright and its just not me.

then why need to offer such a statement? Of course it has nothing to do with logic. dark was dark before dark was depressing. People and their emotions and attachments...just because they attach to something doesn't legitimate the attachment. Dark is to depressing as White is to "pure"...it's pure alright...purely arbitrary. Why a person feels dark is depressing is just as subjective as why a person feels classical music is better than rock or vice versa, for someone might just as easily feel that dark--or the opposite--is rather refreshing, i.e. ME ^^. It's not as if 'dark is depressing' is the same as how you feel relieved after you take a !@#$, which is an inherent response. It's conditioned by environment, natural AND ignorant

If you don't like Asmodians because it makes you feel depressed then you can change your perspective (red pill) or go Elyos (blue pill); either way it's win-win for me

I think what is being referred to here is how light levels affect mood. It is known that sunlight levels can greatly affect mood, sleep patterns, etc. In places in the world where little sunlight is received for parts of the year, depression can be a problem if not looked into.

In WoW, the Draenei starting area, Azuremyst Isle, and the area Darkshore**, are both really gray, and I personally think they they are the most "depressing" areas in WoW, far more so than any fiery/doomy high-level area, because they are so desolate, but I also think because they are so sparsely populated.

The point I am making is that even if an area is gloomy, if it is fairly well populated with other players to talk and LOL with, and you kept are busy questing and fighting, you may be less likely to fall into the dark moods the areas evoke.

(**Both I think are patterned on the beaches of the Pacific Northwest USA, like Washington state, which is pretty bleak.)

Precise Zeph I was pointing in that direction. Sunshine ( not sure also bright colors ) are really underestimated considering what positive effect is has or what it can cause with the lack of it.

Something dark doen´t mean necesarily to be depresing. There are areas in the Asmodian half that i wish it would be in the Elyos one.

I think the "depressing" idea it´s only something about tastes and likes of each one.

we see different things on these screens. grey-green colours. stones. gloomy pines. lack of landscape objects. There are only 2 places in asmodians pve zones which look good: a shining tree in starting zone and autumn forest. everything else looks like worst lineage 2 zones: almost empty locations, mountains, rare trees. I cant understand how somebody can like it. Looks like you seen not enough videos. You'll enjoy that nice shining tree for a few hours till you leave the starting area. And you'll spent a lot of time in decorations like this:

Does they look good? If yes. I have no more comments.

I can post screens of all asmodians zones. But I dont think its usefull. You can do it yourself. For example here. http://www.jeuxonline.info/images/Ai...er_of_Eternity
Sorry for my frankness but most of them look like sh*t. Not because they are dark and not colurful. Just because they are empty. Darkness can be beautiful and have a great design (for example Warhammer's locations of Chaos race) but i dont see anything like this in asmo's locations. Only bleak plains surrounded by mountains.

It does look stunning but I cannot frolic in the flowers and chase butterflies so it is depressing.

It doesn't look like poop, but it could use some more trees. The term people are looking for here is "occlusion", which is adding obstructions, either physical or visual, which add to the perceived intricacy and size of an area. Because the areas mentioned are stark, with not many trees or rock outcroppings to be navigated around, it can make an area seem boring or shallow. I suspect they will add more vegetation and other obstructions before release - I hope so, anyway!
