Aion: Not made for everyone?

Hello gents, I am a former WoW player, was very hardcore and was very successful in arena and quit after season six because it got stale for me.

Anyway, I play Aion every day but I level slowly, maybe 2-3 levels a week, sometimes one. I'm currently 28 and I play solely for PvP. Recently, I was attempting to get some action in the Abyss but hardly are there any enemies remotely close to my level for me to prey on. When I brought this up in Assassin chat, I was told "You're just behind the leveling curve."

So...is that it? Do I have to play and level constantly to be able to have fun and PvP? So far I have 11 kills and only 3 were solo. More often than not, I'm gang raped by four level 40s that I mistakenly wander into. I don't know but does anyone else feel this way? In all honesty I love this game to death and have had so much fun playing it up until this point, but it just seems like the end game playing and actual game objective is not for me.

Level differences matter a whole lot in this game for PvP, so yeah, you'll need to just plain catch up to other players if you want to stand a chance.

Also, it's totally not worth it to PvP in the Abyss at 28 and probably still into the low 30s.

yes level and gears need constant work. sadly theres no level-based battlegrounds or anything. lower abyss grinding spots/rifts will be the only places you can really pvp for now.

Assassin didn't really start working for me until 34ish or so (I hear people saying they started raping face at 25 and others not until 50, just depends on play-style I guess.)

You're going to have trouble with higher levels at 28, guaranteed. Some people have just managed to grind their way to the high 40's and stomp all over everyone. You have to remember that you're not going to be able to do much of anything against players 5+ levels higher since the resist bonus will make your runes next to worthless.

However, you won't need to worry about higher level players once you hit 34 and get advanced stealth. Only 2 classes can break it (ranger & sin) and the skill is a 30 second duration on a 10 minute CD. Even then, the player has to be at least level 40 to have it. I actually use Hide II more defensively to avoid groups rather than offensively for ganking. Definitely one of the class-defining skills.

I had the same mindset as you in the 20's. Just remember that we're a very gear-dependent class that scales better at levels.

Also remember to choose your fights carefully. I can't emphasize that enough. People nyerk about the assassin not standing up very well in 1v1 duels and such. What they fail to realize is that one of our biggest advantages is our ability to more or less choose when, where, and who we fight. Pop stealth and just walk up next to your target. Then wait for the SM to burn their fear on a mob, wait for the cleric to use their insta-heal before jumping in and stun-locking them, wait for the sorc to use the sleep-state mana regen, etc. etc. As long as you take your time and don't go rushing at the first player you see, you shouldn't have a problem. Look for and engage at the most opportune times.

Anyway, good luck regardless on if you choose to stay with it or reroll.

It's not worth the time to hit max level in this game if you're levelling at a rate of 2-3 levels per week and you're still only in the 20s. Even at 50, this game requires massive amounts of time to grind gear to put you on par with everyone else. If you can't at least play around 25-30 hours a week, you're going to be so far behind in this game that it's not worth playing.

WoW is trying to, but in doing so and catering to the most casuals of casual it's actually pushing away people from the other end of the spectrum, got tired of using 5 abilities in pvp at level 80.

Anyhow regarding the OP, yeah you are a little behind the curve, the majority of the players ought to be around 30-40 now, and alot of people have left the abyss to level up in higher lvl zones, the majority of my kills are solo and atleast 80% of them are kills of people near or a little above my own lvl, gets easier to survive the really high levels later on too, I havent died in ages to someone that's been too high for me to kill, easy to run away with some consumables, assuming you react fast enough.

You do not have to play and level constantly to enjoy pvp, it's more about being efficent and getting xp in a fast way, like lvl 25-28 (to 29 if you do it smart) should fly by with TG. Gotta remember that it's been out a a little over a month, and a few are actually at 50 already so being 28 is a tad behind yes. A good thing for you is that with your current speed by the time you reach 40+ the patch that buffs the quest xp there will be out.

You do not have the proper level to look for 1x1 pvp.
Instead, try to form a decent group and look for the rift portal.

At this level, in abyss, you will only be capable of group vs group fights.

I have 244 kill but just 3 of them was solo.

few days ago I was on my 46 main and tried to find some people in abyss to test my new skill on (throw dagger), I checked all upper fortresses and couldnt find any asmo. Checked all towers and still not a single asmo. I think it was about 2-3pm so there should be some players online by that time...

Today I went on my 28 alt and tried to gank some asmos, I flew over whole lower abyss and the only saw only 2 asmos around my lvl, 1 lvl 40 and 1 lvl 50 asmo (lol). So I dunno what lvl you have to be to find some pvp in abyss...

There's a lack of consistent competitive PvP in Aion, I don't think anyone can deny that.

I went right to the abyss when i hit 25.. I got Steam rolled..

I lvled, and went back at 34, and its been ALOT more fun, I can survive, and kill a few solo's, however look out for those groups, becuase they are looking for you.

At lvl 28, it's not really hard to lvl. Are you doing TG? Its fast and easy exp, so I'd make sure to do that every time its available. I'd say lvling doesn't start slowing down until lvl 30, which is when you start to run out of soloable quests, and have to rely on groups. Leveling in this game does require some time, but it is well worth the effort for endgame. Have you tried rifting yet? I find that rifting is alot easier than abyss pvp, just because there is no flight involved.

Also, there seems to be a lot less players in the abyss (at least on my server), and the players that you will find are most likely 40+. It seems like a lot of people are quitting early, and that could ruin the whole abyss experience. On the other hand, I managed 2 find 2 gold bots in the abyss, grinding in a lil secluded spot. Seems like the goldbots are getting more and more advanced.

In short, if you're behind the leveling curve, then I would stay out of the abyss. Right now its pretty much higher lvl people who are tired of grinding, jus going around killing every1 for 2 AP a kill.

Good pvpers signed off this game long ago, only the morons stayed.

99,9999% of the pvp in Aion goes like this:
make a 10-man gank group and start roaming. if for some unknown reason your group steps into a similar group, run the other way and keep on looking for solo lowbies.
they will be doing the same

Sounds like you're the exact opposite of a "good pvper" to me.

or run to guards. lol.

When I find people near my level most run because they think their getting ganked by someone higher. I find it great when someone stays and fights it out, whether I win or lose. I'm also a bit put off because sins don't have much of a role in mass pvp it seems because of our inherent 'squishiness'. I'm hoping that leveling my alchemy will change that so I have shock scrolls, etc.
