Hey
My computer is about 5 years old now... and kinda wearing down so i would like to have a new one built before Aion launches... I live in Canada and willing to spend between $1500 - $2000... im not real familiar with over clocking or dual raided hard drives and i own a copy of windows vista but would be willing to switch back to xp.... if the game would run better there.. any help would be greatly appreciated ![]() |

I can't afford to build myself a better PC than what I have right now. If I did, I would let you throw something together. I might come into 400 dollars at some point soon, but I doubt anyone can build something better than what I have right now for 400. What I have right now is a year old, though....so maybe.

The whole 'building' thing I think I can do, it's the 'finding the right pieces' part that I can't. I just received part of a settlement payoff, so I get to build a super computer. So I got onto newegg.com and was completely lost. That piece has to fit this piece, which requires that piece, which also has to fit those pieces. This isn't compatible with that, and that is a more expensive version of this. Thankfully I was able to get help with the parts, and will have help getting it put together.

On the other hand, because of these issues, it's become very easy to get base-level system support over the phone through MSI, ASUS, and ABIT, and very likely many other MOBO manufacturers. Also, regarding the return policy, I've dealt with companies like zipzoomfly.com who won't necessarily get the return in within 2-3 days, but they will guarantee a return in that time - so if you have the capital to just buy the replacement part, it amounts to the same thing.

Thanks for the feedback, it's good to be aware of those things. Given the fact that my last computer died out nearly two months ago, so I'm overdue for a good computer. All I have had to work with is a slow, Vista based laptop.
What are the compatibility issues? And what pieces do they apply to? This is how he has me currently set up (check hold doesn't clear until Tuesday, so it hasn't been ordered quite yet): Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor ASUS P5N-D LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory EVGA 512-P3-N873-AR GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive(hopefully I won't full this one up as well) I have no real idea what is what, so I can't very well comment on his setup at all. It's not overpriced, which is a great bonus, and it is supposedly able to take all the multitasking I'm going to throw at it.

Aura -
That setup will work, from first glance... One suggestion, however, would be to get a higher RPM drive, rather than a larger cache. This is better for gaming - afaik. Someone within earshot was boasting about their velociraptor (Idk how to spell that) the other day. Raptors are great drives for gaming. Oh, and the MoBo you have there can easily handle DDR3, which might be worth it. Conversely, you can wait a while and upgrade when the price drops. (In case you weren't aware of the option) On the other hand, if you're planning on going through upgrade stages, I'd recommend scrapping that whole gettup, and going with an AMD build. (AM2+ chipset) If that's the case, mention it to your friend, -but you pretty much have to trust him over some dude on the internet (Me) Pass a PM if you have more detailed questions - I won't get involved in debates online regarding AMD vs. Intel, or price-comparisons (regarding my AM2+ suggestion) on a forum, but I will discuss them one-on-one.

Thanks for the reply, we're reviewing the pieces again. Hopefully I'll end up with a computer that will last me a good while.

The above config is solid and cheap and will run all the games you want considering you get a good gpu. Yes, I would never build this for myself. (hint) 8800 GTX and 9800 GTX are really cheap right now. 3 sli 8800 gtx kills 2 sli gtx 280s. 2 gtx 280s cost $800 3 8800 gtx cost $390......O.o and yes howling is pro and will never stop following me around and trying to prove to you all that im a noob. I am a noob, there you win. No wonder I rarely post on these forums anymore, anytime I try to help out I get some epeen flexor brainiac trying to tell me he has a better way....I have never seen howling post specs of the machines he is building. HWOLING! Please, show me what i should build for $800 or for any price that is. Talk *^*&* now.
