If anyone is seeking info on the preformance of certain parts that you want to purchase as opposed to the others in the market
AnandTech: your source for hardware analysis and news it gives you info on everything you need to know about the preformance of video cards, mother boards, chipsets, Monitors, you name it. Its the #1 source for parts information on the net right now. and mark, how far SE US are you? i happen to be in florida. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I also build PC's as a hobby with my father so i know the ups and downs, but im a part info geek for the most part. I cant help anybody build PC's right now since ill be leaving to medschool soon, but if you need info, hit me up.

I'm looking for an experienced builder who lives in or close to Illinois, USA. I've built a couple PCs, but I'm looking for someone who is willing to voluntarily build a PC and has significant experience in building, particularly cabling and organization.

is building my own pc something i could conceivably do myself with the help of some online guides, or is it something i should leave to someone more experienced? i like to think that i am good with my hands when it comes to crafty things like this, but the closest i've come to any computer related building is swapping out ram.
are there any people here in the san francisco area who would be willing to do an assembly like this for me? |

Sometime this Summer I'm going to be making the crossover from Mac to PC. I could probably use services similar to this. In a nutshell, I'm going to be looking to spend around $1,200 or less, I might be able to up it a bit, depending on whether I can find a new job. I know this isn't much, however, I won't mind taking a blow in the HardDrive region, as all that will be installed on my Comp is Vista, PaintShop, Aion, and Ventrilo. I'm looking to Max in Graphics and Processor speed. Basically, I'm trying to get a Computer that will run games with no lag (or as little as possible).
These are the components I'm looking at they seem sturdy, but can you give me a professional review? All in all this should only take out a whopping 775$ or less for the hardware, so if I need to make some slight upgrades I don't mind. My main concern is the Memory. If anyone can let me in the know about free Vista Software, I would appreciate it a lot = ). Processor : Athlon 64 4800+ Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Memory : 2x OCZ Platinum 1 GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit Case : Antec Three Hundred Hard drive : Western Digital Caviar GP WD5000AACS 500GB 5400 to 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s CD-RW : LITE-ON Black 16X DVD-ROM 48X Graphics : ATI Radeon HD 3850 Audio : Sound Blaster Audigy LS Monitor : Acer X163Wb Black 16" Anyways, if you could estimate a price and give me a review. I may have gone too cheap but I have a small budget. Anyways, thanks. Last edited by Clinkz; 05-06-2008 at 05:57 PM. |

im lookin to have a computer built for me in the next few months. probably by mark since he lives in the south east. Anyhow, i dont have a big budget at all and i was just wondering if $500 would be enough to make a pc that could run Aion at a nice setting. I don't know much about the workings of a pc. if it helps any im fine with the monitor i have now so thats 1 less part to worry about.

Oops, I've been ignoring this forum. Neglecting it. And now people need my attention! To the basement!
@Jjay: I'm not a pro at modding cases, sorry. I've fabricated my own radboxes and dremeled some metal out of my current rig, but I have no idea what your e520 looks like internally. Not sure if cutting into it is a good idea, structurally, but I could take a look. A better option, however, is probably upgrading to a more roomy case. Good cases are important, second only to good power supplies in importance. Forget a good CPU or graphics card, if your case and PSU suck then you're already looking at a bumpy road in the future. Just some friendly advice. ![]() @Traize: $500 is a little slim, but you CAN make something that WILL play Aion decently with it. Not awesomely, but it'll play.

~ phadydI swaer by these parts and manucfacturers, I have build about 25 machines in the last year similar to this one, most of them a little more expensive. The case listed here I have actually dropped a machine when getting it out of my truck.... dropped it 4 feet dented it really bad... plugged it in and it posted and has worked without a problem for the last year...a good case is worth it. SAMSUNG 22X DVD Burner Black SATA Model SH-S223F - OEM Item #: N82E16827151171 $27.99 Thermaltake Armor Series VA8000BWS Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Retail Item #: N82E16811133154 $134.99 Fujitsu MBA3073RC 73.5GB 15000 RPM Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) Hard Drive - OEM Item #: N82E16822116057 $179.99 EVGA 01G-P3-1282-AR GeForce GTX 280 SuperClocked Edition 1GB 512-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail Item #: N82E16814130367 $509.99 Thermaltake Toughpower W0155RU 1000W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply - Retail Item #: N82E16817153056 $319.99 CORSAIR 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN3X2048-1333C9DHX - Retail Item #: N82E16820145182 $254.00 ($127.00 each) EVGA 132-CK-NF79-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 790i Ultra SLI DDR3 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail Item #: N82E16813188025 $349.99 Thermaltake CL-P0401 110mm Full-Range Fan CPU Cooler - Retail Item #: N82E16835106102 $59.99 Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 Yorkfield 2.66GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80569Q9450 - Retail Item #: N82E16819115042 Return Policy: Processors (CPUs) Return Policy $329.99 Subtotal: $2,166.92 What's this?Extended Warranty Fee: $271.93 <------------- "With all the 2 year warrantys on everything!!!!" Calculate Shipping Zip Code: GO Shipping: $0.00<-------- "Free SHIPPING!!!!" Grand Total:* $2,438.85 Now, this is some pretty top of the line stuff, and it gives you enough to play all the games that will be coming out in the next 2 years. $2500 every 2 years on a computer isnt that bad and usually you can re-use alot of the parts. But if I was going to build a new machine right now, I would not settle for anything less then this. The Hard Drive has 16mb cach and 15000 rpm, the CPu is a really good Over clocker easly get 3.2ghz with that cooling unit. The GPU is the second cheapest gtx 280, and I threw in 4g of ram that is very compatable with the system. Not to mention the top of the line nvidia board on the market that you will be able to upgrade on for a long time...the info has to move and you need a good board to move the info. The power supply is more then enough that you could throw a second GPU on there without a problem, considerintg the GTX 280 requires a 850watt power supply. There is $2500 well spent all warrantied and everything, If you need more then a 74g hard drive there is something wrong with you. ~ phadyd

How can you use a SCSI drive without a SCSI controller?
