Remote Access Gaming-- Is it possible?
Here's the scenario:
I really want my friend to play Bioshock. Unfortunately she lives in Florida so it's not like she can waltz over here and play it, and her computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements. What I'm looking for is something kind of like UltraVNC. So she can see what's happening on my computer, and possibly control the game (it'd be a bonus if control could be traded off back and forth from her to me, but not absolutely necessary). Which means I'd need audio along with video. My other concern is: Since she doesn't have the minimum requirements to play the game, would it show up as a video on her computer the same way it would on mine, would it show up great on mine and crappy on hers, or what? I've never used UltraVNC so it's possible it'd work fine, but I thought I'd ask first ^^; |

UltraVNC: Remote Support Software, Remote Support tool, Remote Desktop Control, Remote Access Software, PC Remote Control
I say go ahead and try it, and let's see what happens.

While I don't doubt that it would work, I'm going to say it's not going to work well. As we speak, I am tunneling and using remote access and I will tell you, the video lags, even for something as simple as scrolling. There is also a noticeable half second delay between when I hit a key and when the character finally shows up. Finally, sound is an integral part of the gaming experience. Most remote control services stream sound and video at the same time fairly poorly which would further be the detriment of your experience, especially for a game as awesome as BioShock.

It's pretty much impossible to do what you want to do, Chu. At least in our century. I recommend just recording your play with Fraps and sending it to her.

The video and audio compression wouldn't be worth while to your friend, as well as other have stated there would be a half to 2 second delay depending on the upload bandwidth you both have. While she would still be able to see and move, Bioshock isn't a game that plays very well with a setup like that, an RTS or even a dungeon crawler would work better.
As for live streaming of the game, not really an option... video capture, compress, then let her download would be the best...other wise she would get less than Youtube quality. Last edited by Yamii; 03-20-2008 at 09:05 PM.. |

Wow, I can't believe this thread came back.
Okay, I'm going to give you guys the definitive answer. No, you cannot. Tested with Company of Heroes, Perfect World and Rainbow Six. Just a black screen, no video.
