I'd probably go for a Soundblaster X-Fi card for better audio if I had about $50 more to squeeze out. The difference is really noticeable, especially for gaming with all the 3D sounds and stuff. Simply having the card will also boost your performance significantly because it has it's own sound processor, which takes load off the CPU.

2x2GB would be better, also your memory modules will have to be over clocked from 800 to 1000MHz to work fully since 800 is standardso i think two 2Gb/800MHz will be better unless you want to overclock and are going to else go for the faster onces.

Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX All Solid Capacitor Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

Under the specs for the MOBO it says the memory standard for it is DDR2 1066, Am i missing something? I thought i just had to find memory that matched that same speed...

And how would it be better to have 2 sticks of 2gb instead for four 1gb? The mobo has 4x 240 pin connectors for it so is there any kind of performance drop when using more sticks?

Oh, and am i gonna need some of this stuff even though i have a retail cpu? Newegg.com - Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound - Thermal Compound / Grease

Hehe nice! I think i'll go with that PSU, looks better quality than what i had for only a couple bucks more.

Newegg doesn't have the complite list of supported memory listed, so Newegg just write the fastest one:

PC2-6400(800MHz), PC2-5300(676Mhz), PC2-8500(1010Mhz)

The standard speed is to max 800MHz

The only real difference between 2x2 and 4x1 is that you will have two slots over to expand.

And using all 4 memory banks inhibits your ability for overclocking, and creates slightly extra load on the system... While at standard clock speeds 4x1gb is quicker (slightly) than 2x2gb - if you're overclocking then you'll suffer for having all 4 banks in use.

The 1066mhz stated for the mobo is the maximum fsb, you can put any ram in below that speed. You could even put ram in higher than that speed, but you'd have to underclock it so it isn't recommended. Personally I'd grab 2x2gb sticks of PC6400 (800mhz) ram.

Now, this is some pretty top of the line stuff, and it gives you enough to play all the games that will be coming out in the next 2 years. $2500 every 2 years on a computer isnt that bad and usually you can re-use alot of the parts. But if I was going to build a new machine right now, I would not settle for anything less then this. The Hard Drive has 16mb cach and 15000 rpm, the CPu is a really good Over clocker easly get 3.2ghz with that cooling unit. The GPU is the second cheapest gtx 280, and I threw in 4g of ram that is very compatable with the system. Not to mention the top of the line nvidia board on the market that you will be able to upgrade on for a long time...the info has to move and you need a good board to move the info. The power supply is more then enough that you could throw a second GPU on there without a problem, considerintg the GTX 280 requires a 850watt power supply. There is $2500 well spent all warrantied and everything, If you need more then a 74g hard drive there is something wrong with you. ~ phadyd

You can spam that pile of junk system on as many threads as you like. Junk with badly picked parts always be junk.

Stop bashing on me, these parts are good, from the best vendors, seriously. If someone buys these exact parts they will be very happy. ~phadyd

Phadyd, now is not the time to be spending 2,500$ on a computer, with the new nahalem processor line comes out you'll really regret that..

I can laugh at this.

Honestly how many cores do you need? granted they will have 2/4/8/16 core processors but they will come out at the end of october and be more expensive then the processor I listed above. So go ahead and wait for them to come out spend way to much money on one, you wont be able to OC them probly, and then watch as Aion/Crysis/Bioshock/CoD4 and everything else only use 2 cores....waste of money imo. Like I have said many times before, if you want to build your own machine use what I listed above and you will be happy for the next 2 years, and you will be able to upgrade to a new processor when there are games that will actually use them. ~ phadyd

yet you picked a slower clocked quad core cpu than a higher clocked dual core... Why?
