Alienware PC's

One of my friends wants to get an Alienware, and I'm trying to tell him to just get something from NewEgg. He won't listen to me. He says that regular computers cannot have 3 PCI slots. He won't listen to reason. He thinks that Alienware has the only computer with triple GTX 280s. [Which is about 1.4 K at Alienware.] He thinks that 3 GTX 280's > 2x4870. Anything you guys can think of to help me change his mind?

As a friend you could tell him to order parts then build his PC and tell him that if anything happens or he needs an upgrade you will do it for him.

My past 3 comps have been HP and i get really good support. I bought sony.... -cough- fail.
I'm building my next comp.... Blackbird is just too expensive and only have 2 choices on mobos... both Nvidia, Take out the GTX 280 x2 already
But yea let him get his cheep Alien ware.....
1) you can buy MOBO off newegg with 3 PCIE 2.0 X16 slots....
2) Build a comp with same stats as his for way cheeper
3) Laugh and point as his comp fails and shitty service wont help him. ;...;

Im buying the x2 + cooling + PSU so i can OC my CPU and Overkill Aion.

i want to try out 3 gpu's on the type of SLI/CF where 1 card does frame 1, the second frame 2, the third frame 3, etc...I bet that would be killer, especially in a MMO.

Probably the best thing you could do for a MMO though is a 10k RPM HD, since as you move and load seamless and characters pop up to the screen, the 10k HD's have so much faster min load speeds.

3 XSLI with new cards is silly. the heat, and the poor PSU.. good lord. Besides the fact taht Alienwares are horrifically overpriced >< you can get the 4870X2 taht will run much better like you stated (put THOSE in xfire and majical things will happen).... Also with the 3xsli you will need a Core2Extreme CPU to keep up with it... and 2 PSUs. THOUSANDS of dollars to be outdated in 6 months

If i'm not mistaken i think DELL bought out alienware,not that it matters much. 3X GPU is way overkill and not needed unless your a Crysis fanboy.

I would advise against any 4870x2 right now. The drivers are horrible and the card uses way too much power due to no energy saving devices. Wait a few weeks for the x2 to get its bugs worked out, then decide.


edit: btw the 4870x2 doesn't necessarily perform better, in fact on smaller resolutions, it loses. However on higher resolutions, it is faster. If you have a big monitor, go for it, if not, stick to the reliable 280.

i have never had a retail computer and i will never get one 1,over priced 2,you look like a noob.
don't get alienware over priced too the max all you are doing is paying for the name.
get a custom rig so much better

you dont need 3 gpus even if you are a crysis fanboi, i ithnk even those curved 42" screens people in 'the bizz' get to **** around on are only using 2 cf/sli'd cards

Reason i get retail comps is because
1. IDK how to do Raid ..
2. MY DAD DOESN'T TRUST ME TO BUILD MY COMP
3. I cant send it in to the shop and get it fixed for free XD
