new graphics card

I need a new graphics card for my notebook pc and i was just wondering exactly how i go about getting one and what kind i should get. I have a dell inspiron 1420 with 3 gigs ram and 2.4 ghz dual processor. I want a graphics card that is generally good but not too expensive. The one i have now is a Geforce 8400M GS which is 128 mb.
I don't know much about this stuff, the other threads kinda confused me.

I wouldnt go on a nvidia since lately they r having lots of problems, specially with cards for laptops. The cards seems to have problems from factory, and nvidia is beeing forced to refund or replace tons of graphic cards. Thats only my opnion though.... if u want to read more about nvidia problems read this personally after reading that i would go for ATI hehe

Nvidia G92s and G94 reportedly failing - The INQUIRER

Take care!

Nvidia doesnt make products, they design them, if there are problems with the products its probly your manufacturer/vendor. I go with EVGA and I have never had a problem. ~ phadyd

Honestly don't do it, as soon you replace parts in your notebook especially new GPU's, you never know what might happen (Heating problems, Battery doesn't have enough power/not enough juice for the GPU).

Isn't that an integrated Graphics card???? You can not upgrade 95% of notebook cards because they are built on the board.

unless it's a gaming laptop it's very rare that you can replace the video chip. Getting more ram a faster hard drive and maybe a faster processor is about the best you can do. You could dedicate more ram to your GPU in the bios since its likely sharing the ram. Upgrading the processor is pretty complicated and is not something i would reccomend to anyone who has to ask to be honest. ram and hard drive are your best bets.
