Picture going goofy-- monitor or graphic card?
Er, okay. A few days ago I started getting some weird crap over my videos-- they looked like big purple pause buttons, alongside some block-sized distortions. You could still see the picture okay, it just looked like a big bit of blah was stuck on top of it.
I can't screencap it. The screencap looks perfectly normal. So now I'm wondering...could it possibly be my monitor? It only happens with high quality videos, and on games if I move the camera around a lot. |

Obviously Mark planted a virus onto your PC when he was fixing it. I suggest paying him $500 in hope that he will remove it for you.
Hmm...what are your comp. specs? I have a feeling it's your graphics card, but I'm no professional at computers. Tech Support Forum is a pretty helpful site if no aionsource members cannot help you :] |

Sounds like video card but I wouldn't rule the monitor out until it's been tested with a different source. |

My video card has two DVI outs, using a DVI->VGA dongle. I can try the other output, yes. But it's extremely hard to get behind my computer without knocking something over/pulling a cable out, so I'm going to try reinstalling the drivers first-- I noticed some of my video codecs were corrupted this morning, so I reinstalled them. I'm wondering the maybe the same thing happened to my drivers. |

Okay, new development.
I got to wondering why it was only doing it on a certain videos and not all of them...then I realized the ones it was doing it on were high quality videos. I turned hardware video overlay off, and tada. All gone. So I'm thinking now it has something to do with either my codecs, or the drivers. I'm not so sure about the codecs...because I get similar problems when I'm playing a game. I'm going to see about reinstalling the drivers first; and if the drivers aren't the problem, I'll download a new codec pack. |

What codec pack are you using? I've been using the CCCP codec pack for quite a while with much success. You can find it at Combined Community Codec Pack.
I just glanced at the image in your sig. Never really paid attention to it previously. Another 44 pixels of height or so and I guess it would have dawned on me sooner. ![]() Last edited by skimike; 04-11-2007 at 09:34 PM.. |

I have the CCCP codec pack. Whether or not it's installed, I don't know. I'm somewhat worried I might have both of them installed and don't know it-- which could very well lead to my problems. I haven't gotten the time to update the drivers on my card yet, I figure I'll try the codecs first. |

The codec packs should be listed in your Software menu after you go to config.
The way I got the codecs I need is by simply downloading Zoom Player,, which imo,, is the best around at the moment, it also automaticaly asks you to download some codecs which are commonly used, and then you install them with Zoom. Never have had a problem using this method. Perhaps it'll be usefull for you. |

I don't recommend VLC anymore. I used it before but it generally won't play the subtitles the way they were coded; it even goes as far as to ignore all the coding and just display the text at the standard position at the bottom. Besides VLC doesn't work correctly with the new h264 files that are the new thing to be coming.

Huh. I want to say it's the drivers (I uninstalled k-lite and deleted all the registry files) but the strange thing is, it works fine for *everything* except .mkv files now. Well, when I turn hardware video overlay off it doesn't.
Gunna go reinstall the drivers now, see if that helps. |
