Animal Double Feature

The Animals I will feature are
Lions- More then 10,000 years ago lions were once found through out North and South America, Asia, Europe and Africa. Today they're only threw-out Africa. Lions are found in many different types of habitats ranging from open plains to scrub and forest.
A group of lions (pride) can consist of anywhere 4-6 related adults and their cubs. The pride is made up of females. Males can ether lives alone or form a coalition. The coalitions are made up of 2-3 unrelated males or 4-5 males originating from the same pride. The coalition will protect an area from other coalitions, but these only last 2-3 years.
Hyenas- Upon looking at a hyena it looks to be related to dogs but is in fact related more closely to cats. The hyena also has a reversed mane. The hairs on its neck and back slope forward rather then back, and they stand erect when the hyena is excited.
The hyenas live in groups (clans) as large as 50 in prey-rich areas. The clans are female dominated with the females producing 1-3 pups, which the males do not take a part in caring for. A hyena clan has a communal den and jointly defends the territory.
The Mix- It is well known that Hyenas and Lions share some common ground. With lions and hyenas preying upon the same food (zebra, wildebeest, and gazelles) there is heated competition. Both are known scavengers and will steal each other’s kills if given the chance.
With territories of both species almost the same it isn’t surprising that confrontations between the two are common. When they do happen it is a toss-up of who will win out. The lions have strength and speed, but the hyena has numbers. They are a classic rivalry.
