Recap week

Posted 06-07-2008 at 01:48 PM by Ecco
So, being my first post, I'll go on what I've been doing for the past week or so.

After ending my subscription to WoW, I moved on to another game called Rohan Online : Blood Feud. Hmm...reminds me of Lineage 2 only more bright and colorful in a way, L2 was dark, a bit sharp on color. Haven't really read on much other than OB was coming up soon, so cool, I get to try it out all new with other people. I even went and joined a guild and tried to get select a server was Silva at the time.

Anyway, OB came on the 27th of May, which was nighttime was me. My god, were the servers packed, everything was lagging, disconnects abound. I never saw so many players coming on at once in the tutorials, so I expected a lot of people spamming the chat channels with mumbo jumbo and many questions. After 3-4 hours of trying to play the horrid launch, another server was added as backup...which also quickly filled...and that Syrephis, the one I currently reside in.

One good about this tho, the staff are amazing, the best I've seen in any MMOs thus far, I know the launch was a bad point for them, truly not every company can be prep'd for that many players trying to swarm the 2 servers at the time. For that the staff did work fast and added 3 other servers later on, and fixing some problems during that period, for that I'm really glad, forums are also regularly attended by mods and staff alike.

Moving on to next day, which I finally get to enjoy the game fully was pleasant, started up a Elf Healer class, seeing I'm always support in most MMOs I played in, UI was not bad, movable a plus, remapping keys, another plus, fps controls, plus +, meeting all sorts of nationalities from all over the world? +++ But coming from WoW and their all custom UIs / addons made by players for players, I wish next-gen MMOs would allow their code to be used by players to create truly unique mods....someday I hope, but...I can't complain about it, it is a different game. Of course, games like these are always about the community and the social aspect of it which I tend to enjoy.

The game gives you 6 races to choose from with pretty standard classes, Knights which are like warriors / tanks, Healers which...heal, Dragon Fighters are a mix of DPS and tanking I guess, Archers for your ranged DPS, Assassin for your subtle and high critical damaging attacks, and finally Mages for your spellscasting needs and face-melting fun, though the classes are also pretty race-restricted, which is fine.

Some neat features are item forging, which basically a risk game where you combine 2 items to try to forge either a rare or unique piece, and the stats varies so you can pretty create some pretty powerful pieces of gear...if you succeed that is, if not then those pieces are gone forever including your money if paid for them.... I ended blowing up a lot of nice equips, which kinda of reminded me of enchanting scrolls from L2...While I understand every game has varying levels of grinding, this one kinda adds in a system mob kill exp bonus, everytime you reach a certain number say....19/20 the next mob ends up giving you more exp than it normally does, while this helps out in the long run, seeing a counter of how many mobs you killed also kinda shocks you when grinding. Another feature, minigames, kinda adds some off-time when you're not killing or questing, it's either fishing or a sort of Blackjack-esque card game, which I haven't tried out yet, I had friends losing a of money to that game, so I'm guessing it's really addicting. There's more but I rather not post anymore and let them for you find yourself if someone ever gets interested.

About 2 - 3 days into OB, my guild leader started grinding for the money and materials to start our guild creation quests, it was pretty awesome seeing that I get to participate a guild forming and striving to become servers' first guild made, I was pretty excited at that point, because I never got a chance to do anything special in WoW. We were also still around level 30's at the time, so the quests would be harder on us, which also led to a quite a few people coming to help us on the quests which was fun because we get to go places that were still higher level for us. It was fun, exploring new areas and the dangers of getting wiped by +45 level mobs, fun times.

Another group led by a person who goes by the name of Felony was also on race for first....which they ended succeeding in the end. Felony was also a type who enjoys a lot of attention and bragging about PKing and being a HC gamer or so what his guild, Immortal stood for. So our forums are usually visited daily with flaming about this guild trying to take over the server, which in the end he was a joke...which also ended with....more reason to flame more... >.>

Well, on 1st of June, Immortal became first and us, EpochReborn, second and it was pretty amazing to see it finally done. We would've been first if not for the leader forgetting to grab the materials from another player who just happened not to log on that day, thus delaying and letting them take first, which is fine. Our 2 guilds also went on little skirmishes here and there, so from now on things started becoming...pointless...fights. For some reason Immortal wanted to take on the role of bad guy and cause chaos within the server, and while we don't attack unless provoked went on counter-offensive...which led...to more drama...

In the end...all things must come to past, Felony, being all badass that he was and accusing some players for botting finally got the ban himself...for botting. o.O Which also made him so humiliated that the our forums saying that he got what he deserved, so the first guild made and also the first one to fall...so horribly, this is also one of the best experiences to date for me playing MMOs, without him though the server has become less...active now since us and them really pretty much dissolved as any other day. As much as I speak negatively about the person, he did try to start out pking and cause problems in order to for people to become more active and participate rather than just going on a major grindfest. Also since become 3rd our server also becomes a lot less popular than Silva or Torian because there's really more guilds and people over there.

Now that fiasco is over, I decided to take a break, playing Rohan over the course of a 4 days really takes a toll on you, well coming, friends already higher leveled than me, so really can't stop playing to in order to catch up T.T So right now I'm guessing my guild is next for another series of events, seems that ever since we started mass recruitment for more members much to my dislike, seems there's no one I know in guild much anymore. I know people have that being wanted to be in something new feeling, when that goes away, people move on and start guild hopping, which also causes a lot of disappointments within the guilds. Also apparently a lot of drama also sparked up within which also made many higher leveled players to leave, not that I really care, it's not good morale for other guildies to stay in. A lot of friends already started leaving, so pretty soon, I'll ended as just another faceless member, I don't know why I haven't left yet, maybe I'm starting thinking that the guild might reform and become better, but I'm doubting since our leadership currently is on work internationally, so the future is bleak at the moment...

Currently I'm level 38 moving to 40 pretty soon, I really wish to try out the game's main feature, Township Wars...which basically seems like castle siege in Lineage 2, seems instance though and pits a battle between 2 or guilds trying to take certain points within the town and win I guess? Not sure, our township war hasn't even been announced yet...so...I can only wait.
Not going to expecting a lot of readers, so I'll probably update my daily runs in the game and put my thoughts out here, though this place is really for Aion, which is another game I'm wanting to play that and Warhammer which another one I'm highly anticipating I really don't mind blogging on another game. So pretty ends my week of Rohan and join me next time when I go on in the adventures of Rohan next week. =)
