A weekly sum-up.
Posted 10-22-2009 at 06:38 PM by Freyar
So, in the past few days since my last blog, a lot of things have been going on. First, there's been a lot of debate over boosting XP majorly for quests. Second, a decent amount of discussion about PvP, PvP instances, and opening the Abyss to early characters.
While the XP buff might be an interesting method to get people to stop having such a fit over grinding (which by my definition is having to do something you don't like to do in a game as grinding requires friction), it doesn't exactly solve the problem of a lack of story content. I agree that more story and more direction wouldn't be a bad choice, though with that it shouldn't extensively impact the speed that one gets their levels. I am stuck with the idea that people are rushing to get through to Level 50 as that is the "over-arching goal" that everyone seems to be able to attain within three weeks, which just goes back to having them skip so much content instead.
A lot of the threads in the discussion forum just seem to be going in a giant circle. We shouldn't have to grind, you should because it's the way the game was designed, I don't mind grinding if there's something to mask the intent of it, maybe it would be okay to give people more guidance, because we shouldn't have to grind.
Full Circle.
PvP is out there, whether people believe it or not. On occasion my PvP log pops up with hostiles in Morheim, and I hunt them down. Why? Because it's fun to try and figure out who's causing a problem, couple that with the fact that these guys generally want to go after our L25's so why not. Fighting is something I love to do. I don't mind losing, and in fact I usually expect to lose out in the Abyss, however people that complain they can't counter every single class need to be smacked upside the head. The PvP is teamwork based, and don't bother telling me that it's just about zerging.
Last night I ended up taking a group of Praetorian Guard Abyss newbies in there and we flocked around taking a few hits here and there, but ultimately enjoying ourselves. Did we get a lot of kills in? Not really, most of us got chewed up by a massing Elyosian force, but in the end we had fun. Not sure why others complain about it.
People call me a troll because I inherently expect the suggestions made to backfire. It isn't so much that I don't want change, more that I recognize that as a full product it belongs to the developers. By making arbitrary changes without a very carefully considered downside, we move Aion away from what the developers intended it to be and back towards the generic flock.
When you make a suggestion, turn around and ask yourself, "Why is it the way it is currently."
