MMO's and Me: Atlantica

It's been awhile since I posted onto this blog. And since it's my ONLY blog (you lucky people!) I decided it must be updated!

Realizing that Aion was a distant speck on the horizon I have decided, after much agonizing, to put Aion to the side and focus on something else.

I'm a traitor, I know. But a lovely young woman can only wait for so long...

So I hopped on MMOSite and looked around. F2P...F2P....and more F2P. Oh wait, theres a P2P game...thats 5 years old. Realizing that there haven't been many MMOs released in the past few years I had to settle for either a game I had already played or a F2P, probably Korean-flavored.

Mmmn, Korean-y...nom nom!

I see an ad for Fileplanet giving away CB keys. So I check out the game: Atlantica.

It's a turn-based party MMORPG.

OMG!

I've been waiting for one of these forever! I love turn based combat, some of the games (Besides LOZ) that got me into playing video games were turn-based JRPGs (Grandia 2 and Thousand Arms).

You have a hero, your character and you pick your weapon (which equates to your class). Customize, pick a name and a greeting (preferably something from your favorite game/movie/anime. Make sure it's really cliché and recognizable!)

Once you log in you are introduced as some descendant of Atlantis... blah blah... save us all blah.... go find blah-dee-blah... go forth- wow these graphics are nice!

Anyways, as you level up you can recruit different and more 'mercenaries' into your party. These aren't other people, they are NPC's you control. So ach person has their own setup and party of mercs.

The mercs all have their own classes and personalities. (I remade my character to get rid of my archer, she had one of those laughs that are akin to running your nails over a chalkboard)

All I could think of, as I led my Hero and her party around through well-thought quests and fun battles is how much FUN I was having! In a Korean F2P MMO! FUN! Really having fun! are you as amazed as I am? Ever since Rohan I thought I'd given up on KF2P.

Thank you Atlantica for opening my eyes! I want to play this game to the end! I want to get tons of mercs and see how I can arrange my party for the best effects! I want to fight all the bosses! I want to deck out my bestiary! I wanna wear that awesome armor! I want to craft items as much as I want because CRAFTING CAN'T FAIL! Oh YES!!!

Wait...what? CBT is over? NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

*sigh* Back in WoW till Atlantica goes into beta again this month.

	I'm playing it also, it's really a fresh take on the current F2P, so far it's pretty good. It's still a grind, but it's more cooler with a party and actually working on tactics for once. Can't wait for the next phase also. Only things I currently got gripes about are the weird camera angles and item shop, I hope it don't trash the game like it did to Rohan.

	You know, the CBT only ended because you were enjoying it. I think the less people log on, the longer each CBT phase goes. Trick is, find one you like, but most other people hate. ^^ Still, kudos on finding the distraction.

@Ecco The grind isn't so bad, and quests aren't too bad. Especially since that auto run thing will take you DIRECTLY to your quest target. I'm pretty sure that will be a quest shop feature. I REALLY hope they don't nerf anything. Like item drop rates. those were fine even tho I only got my Hero to, like lvl 20-something. And Rohan's cash shop prices were insane, it was like $100 to have +exp for a month. Yeaaah... who were they trying to kid?

@Tareith Actually, Atlantica had this thing that we'd get to keep our characters if we managed to get 10,000 people into CB. It only got up to, like, 5000 though. So all our toons got wiped. But anyone who got over lvl 20 in CB gets to keep their name and their name is blue for OB. Exciting, huh? (insert eye roll)

@ LaSirene I didn't mean the grind being a negative thing, everything is a grind, just depends how long it takes to reach your goal. Everyone seem put "grind" all bad nowadays. Yes most of the features I grew to love a lot, Arenas are one of the better aspects of the game, I had friends burn through savings just to see their fav ai-fights win or lose. It's pretty funny to see a good game, I got so down after the trend of grindtastic MMOs, and the after mess with Rohan...ugh. I was glad to get to partake the CB along with some friends, had fun pretty much most of the time.

I actually preferred the CB wipe, I choose axe for main, but didn't like it, so I'm going spear next CB opens up. It's not that hard to get to 20+, though I do feel somewhat for the insane levelers, then again maybe not.

	Lvl 20 wasn't hard at all, took me a day and a half. My Hero was a shaman so that may have had something to do with it. Having a Staff Hero is like starting the game on easy mode. I plan to have two Heros, one Archer Hero and another Shaman Hero. My BF was in love with spears. His Hero used a spear and he had 2 spearsmen in his party. He's insane, I know.

	Have been playing since CB1. Now waiting on CB3 on 25 August. Its not all good btw, the pvp = luck and scroll spamming

	Ugh, they ruined Atlantica with the stamina system. It's turned into another Rohan, I'm so sad.... I'm sick of seeing good games get f*cked by their companies.

	True. Quote: I'm sick of seeing good games get f*cked by their companies. What's more frustrating is how frequently it happens. I was going to ask if Atlantica ran on Mac, but obviously now that doesn't matter. Cheers for the heads-up, though.
