Reaction to the BETA Testers?

So we have a few BETA testers on Aion now and they were kind enough to answer a bunch of questions. Of course the skills and effectiveness of Chanters came up and the answer was that a lot of testers are complaining about Chanters. Apparently their skills are highly nerfed to the point that people rarely invite them to parties and that soloing is almost impossible.

Needless to say I'm rather saddened by this. But they say hope is on the horizon! Supposedly the Devs are going to up Chanters to give them the balance they're -suppose- to have already.

It's kind of surprising to see this after the Chanter vs. Gladiator PvP video. I mean it looked like the Chanter held his own pretty well. But of course PvP and group play is pretty different. It's also different solo-wise if the Chanter doesn't do enough damage and the buffs don't work.

My reaction was pretty much shock when I read people are not satisfied with Chanters. The videos and the lists of abilities look awesome! But it seems that we've had some smoke blown up our butts. It seems like there's quite a few things that have gone wrong in CB2 and maybe that's why now they're making CB3?

So what is the reaction from the Chanter world about the playability of the characters we want?

Well, I remember being told by someone who could read the Korean forums that people were also complaining about Chanters' dmg capabilities in CBT1. Like, someone who played a Chanter made a post that they couldn't kill anyone in a duel. I'm surprised that they haven't made them better still... But first time hearing that they're not wanted in parties? D: They're supposed to have awesome buffs! Maybe Devs are scared to make Chanters overpowered that they nerfed them to Hell just to be sure.

Actually, this sounds good to me, i always enjoy playing the gimped class. Last time was the Druid in WoW. When i got to 60 there were 5 lvl 60 druids on my server on alliance side, me included.
Only thing to do is...learn to play with what you've got and don't expect the devs to help you out.

Yeah, I kind of think with the versatility of the class that they're afraid to up things too much and it go over the top. But apparently per what people are saying, they still haven't gotten things where they need to be. It's -supposed- to be a support class and yet Chanters aren't supporting anything yet.

I'm with you on this. It seems like Chanters are going to be a hard class to play. But at the same time, I don't want them to be impossible. The whole reason I liked Chanter as it looked like something that would be used to lead parties and help out. Guess we'll just have to see what changes are made in CB3 to tell if we'll be able to do our part.

If they leave Chanters as nerfed as they say they are, I'm going to roll a spiritmaster; I ain't gonna stick around and watch the world go by from behind the tank that I always have to group with just so I can collect items.

With a spiritmaster, at least I control the tank.

Hummm... Imo they will not make such a mistake in a so well designed (up to now) game. I believe Chanters will be fixed soon, maybe they didnt change much from CBT 1 because of other priorities?

And if im not mistaken, party buffing classes in other MMOs started out very unbalanced, sometimes pretty weaker and were fixed in time. I believe Chanters will be alright and become a great class by time of the game release. Dont you think?

Well, I think they were overly cautious, because a support class can be really over powered if they don't balance it just right. It's probably easier to add on to a class then to take away, but I wouldn't know because I'm not a designer or anything. So I believe Chanter will own in due time.

Yeah, I'm hoping it just wasn't a high priority and more tweeking is in the works.

I think they're going about the whole thing very cautiously and smartly. Like Kimino said it's much easier to add to a class than to take away, if a class is already nerfed from the get-go players are grateful when things are added and they can do things they couldn't before. However when you take away from a class people start crying NERF.

From the moment I saw the Chanter class I saw so much potential and I can't believe that the designers haven't seen the same thing. At this point if people want to complain and whatnot that's fine, but it won't really affect my decision until I can try it out for myself since the game it's still in Beta, meaning there's more work still to be done.

Chanters are suppose to be "buffers", not a melee combat specialist like gladiators and assassins. The reason people are complaining about the chanter lately is because they expected chanters to be the best support class in party but problem is that their buffs aren't much of "big deal" atm. Their armor buff and hp buff doesn't really boost your armor and hp by alot and their combat skill isn't amazing as gladiators or assassins. Developers can't buff them just like that either since if their melee damage is buffed too much, about same level as gladiator and assasin, they would be invincible since they have buffs, and can heal themselves. I am sure they will find some kind of solution regarding this matter to balance things out.

So, currently chanters's buffs aren't much of upgrade, their dps isn't as good as assassin/gladiator and their heal is worse than cleric. Maybe they aren't that useless at high level but at low level they aren't that great that's for sure. Don't worry too much about chanter being weak though, they will balance things out eventually.

To me Chanter sounds just like a Jack of all trades here.. They aren't hitting too high, they aren't healing too much, they are the only class who can fully buff.

Master of nothing, skilled at everything; yes?

NCsoft wanted chanters to be the best buffers in game along with minor stuff such as melee dps to solo and able to protect them selves, and heal as support healer to backup clerics. But... because of balancing issues they aren't what they are meant to be atm. Don't worry, developers are trying to find soution to help chanters and balance out the classes better so no one would be "useless".

I trust NCSoft will fix Chanters, but I fear they wont really balance/buff/fix/whatever them until after release.

Then again it's still CB and there's a long ways to go to retail.
