I think he means a resto shaman = not good DPS?..The way he's talking about it is that he's thinking of a Shaman as being all 3 builds at the same time.

If anyone played GW I think chanter is very similar to GW Paragon class, which is you can go both ways: either to buff up your group, or do damage (looks like it deals elemental damage). In GW paragon class can be self sufficient; from the looks of this it might be a good class you can solo with. I am not sure if this will apply here, but in GW group of 4 paragons would be practically unstoppable, with all the buffs + heals + damage.

From what I've seen, this class seems different than a Paragon in GW.
The most similar connection I can think of is an Assist from Flyff.

Can you buff out of party? I've seen that the buff system is mostly timer based, with a few exceptions. One of the nice things about playing a buff class, is that even if you feel like soloing, people are friendly with you if you buff them in passing. (i.e., willing to help for a couple seconds with the last part of your quest chain, etc)

I know with many games, they did not use timers, and restricted buffs to party. Other games, they have restricted buffs to last just as long as the caster is online.

Except that assists were crazy powerful, capable of self buffs and heals as well as doing AoE+stun from very low level unlike any other character. Fastest to become second class and if you went Billposter.. well yeah. Powerhouse.

I hope for the sake of the Chanters that there will be a good middle path. Enough to be good a soloing and perhaps useful for PvP because your survivability with your buffs and heals would just make you stand longer than the enemy rather than just using more DPS. For example an assassin slashing away at you and you'll flash your heals every now and then while the assassin's hp keeps dropping.

Chanters were either the fastest or 2nd fastest leveling class in CBT3, so they should be fine i nthat aspect. Also, I find it interesting that they have a windfury-like skill (Gives the target the ability to hit a 2nd time 30% of the time).

their nukes are quite small in damage compaired to mages but they have negative effects to them like slow, stun, and reduce armour/attack. Their melle combos have 1/2 decent damage but dont have the variety of say glads or assassins. Their heals are quite good especially the ones that are item dependant but still not as strong as Clerics. Where they stand out is their buffs. They are made 1/2 decent in all categories is because they will be in LOTS of parties. If they are in a nuker party their nukes can slow the enemy to let the nukers get more damage then they put incrased mana regen aura on buff nukers with specific caster buffs. then later that day they are in a melee party so they put on their increased attack speed aura their 30% chance to double hit buff and their other various fighter buffs. then they can use their melee skills and help with dps. All of this while still having the ability to secondary heal. Then if no party is available they can pull with nukes give themselves nice buffs and kick some solo ***. they are the jacks of all trades master of none. (except buffs) lol

Exactly my thoughts Lady Elsa. From my first impressions, each class in AION seems to converge with a GW profession: Gladiator and Warrior, Templar and Dervish(not totally sure about this one but it seems right) Ranger and Ranger(duh) Assassin and Assassin(also duh) Sorcerer and Elementalist, Spiritmaster and Ritualist, Cleric and Monk, Chanter and Paragon. The truth is, there is only so much originality to be had, so usually all that changes from game to game are the names.

Chanter is just a gimped cleric, chanter class doesnt have any feature who require them in a party, atm ud better go cleric pretty good and useful class than chanter, their buffs are not worth much, Everyone claimming for a boost though, I hope they get better in future :=)

I wouldnt know wich class to compare with from other games, something like shamy ok... but I would say they were way better on WoW than chanters are in Aion at the moment.

What is with all the WoW parallels

I don't think you should compare games that have different makers when trying to relate gameplay..

For some people, I suppose it's the only game you know..so it's the only thing you can relate to..but, I would suggest you comparing Aion with another NcSoft game..such as Guildwars or Lineage..

Blizzard-Apples Ncsoft-Oranges (I can have my lame metaphors too)

By looking at the skill sets of the Chanter, I can see where you can draw parrallels between the WoW Shaman and AION's Chanter, but it's definitely closer to an Enhancment Shaman then a Smellemental Shaman imo. They're both melee support classes that are only really outstanding because they are support classes but unlike a Shaman from what i'm seeing around the forum is that you wont be likely to be topping any DPS charts.

Someone compared it to a Warcryer from L2 but i've personally never played one, so instead from my experience i'd liken it more to a BD, another melee support class, either way I anticipate it'll be a blast to play.
