I don't see how Chanter relates to Shaman. I'd compare it to a Bard from FFXI.
The reason i say it's not like a shaman, is because at the later levels, you're the off-healer and the buffer. Your damage isn't amazing, either. From what I recall in WoW, shammies were big heals, especially on the raid. They offered limited buffs from totems that some of which only affect the 10 lowest in the group on said effect. But their ele damage was huge.

I'm still very excited to play a Chanter though

I like the Chanter so far. I enjoy the way it plays, does not at all feel like the Shaman of WoW. That was the one class I hated to play in that game. I could never get past level 20 as a Sham. I just hated the way the class played. Don't know why it just wasn't for me i guess.

chanter is nothing like shaman or warcryer... why cant you just see chanter as a Aion class and leave it with that? you allways expect games to be "fresh" and yet you strive so hard to make it like wow/l2 or whatever...

Because this is new to people, they need/want something to compare it to, to get an idea of what they are in for. I dont understand what the big hangup is with people when community members ask questions and make comparisons based on games that you may or may not be a fan of.

You really think, next year, 2 years, down the line, people won't compare the next MMO with AION/WOW? Come on now, dont tell me common sense is a crafting skill here that no one can master.

I'm starting to wish I played WoW past BC. I heard Shamen only started getting overpowered when they added the 51 point talents, after I had quit.

i don't no why you think they are like elemental shaman. if i remember correclty elemental shaman are ranged DPS , it more rather like Enhancement shaman if you ask me. chanter are not a caster class they more of a malee then ranger dps.

Class: Cleric
Legion: Envious
Race: Asmodians

to me
Cleric = Priest/Druid/Shaman
priest because they have a power word shield type of spell
druid for the root/hots
shaman for that one totem lawl

to me chanters are like a ret pally and holy pally in one

Chanters are a hybrid class, more like an enhance shaman than elemental shaman. When I played WoW the enhance shaman was weaker DPS than the pure DPS classes BECAUSE it could buff and heal. This is the same case with a Chanter.

If you want 'mad d33pz' don't roll a Chanter. They are a support class more than a DPS class. I would recommend a Sorcerer, Gladiator or even a Ranger or Assassin.

A recurring issue that people seem to be forgetting, comparing current WoW to Aion is pointless, in all cases since WoW has had almost 5 years of new content, patches, talent tree reworking, mechanics changes. Back in vanilla WoW, anyone who was anyone would remember that any given class had really 1 primary spec. Granted I knew a few people who strayed from the path, but shaman were healers, look at T1 and T2 gear, priests, were healers, warriors were tanks. The game hadn't evolved into what it currently is where there are dual specs, and all different specs having viable uses.

So as many already said comparing the two games is kind of a stretch, in terms of a chanter being like a shaman, i played a sham for 4 years, and i played a chanter for the last three CB. They're similar in the fact that they offer a range of buffs, thats it. think of this as vanilla wow, things are pretty cut simple still, but there is room for growth.

I loved my chanters for completely different reasons than I loved any of my three shaman, and I was even a melee shaman back when we were all running around with the Unstoppable Force two shotting plate wearers. Good times

edited for spelling.

ehh id say the chanter has more in common with the dervish than the templar. also in daoc analogy chanter is like a friar or a warden.

just my thoughts

The shaman in WoW didn't have good buffs and it's healing was average that's why it was given more chance for better damage.(Although you can spec to become pretty much everything with a shaman, which I find lame.)

The chanter is THE buffer. One things for sure, the Chanter is the closest class to a shaman. I wouldn't put all my hopes on the stigma system.
Sorry to say but chanter doesn't have anything near insane dps. in fact cleric has the same dps if not more than chanter yet they do have the massive skills and insane healing abilities as well. so yeah if ncsoft doesn't want chanter to have all of that then why does cleric?
