Aerosol Inhalants...

If you've ever thought about inhaling an aerosol can for the high you can get, DON'T. For the past 3 weeks I've been dealing with an individual exclusively at work who was doing so. In three weeks I have literally watched his intillegence been cut in half, his speech is now slurred, and tonight he got sent to jail and is already facing two felonies and countless misdemeanors. Even heroin users I have had to deal with seem much better off than him.

Too late; 1/16th of the population is dumb enough, or desperate enough, to get high off of anything these days.

Maybe if all of those drug abusers moved to smoking a cig three times a day, alone in their special rooms at their homes, they'd eventually die from the many things revolving around being a smoker.

At least then I wouldn't have to worry about dispensing medications to substance abusers and then get sued for "not being able to tell she/he was addicted to the drug already".

I had higher expectations when it came to training US Army soldiers. But I guess not everything gets through to everyone.

I know, me too. So here I and about 10 other soldiers, all wounded either from jumping (airborne unit) or from Iraq/Afghanistan had to put our medical appointments, medical boards and physical therapy on hold to watch him. One work week alone I was working for 27, 43, 31, and 26 hours straight looking after him. That is in a 6 day period. My solution, that the commander didn't think would be the proper course of action, was to lock him in a room with 30 cans of the **** and come back in the morning with our Mortuary (spelling) Affairs Specialist.

Lol, if this guy had PTDS, I might give him some leanance and get him some mental help. If not, it'd be interesting to see a new drug come out approved by the FDA that's something like Antabuse except it's for inhalants. That's unlikely though.

I'm sure he has a stronger desire for something else that might overhide his need for a high. Did you ask him (simple yet always helpful) why he wants that high? I know of one patient who did it because it reminded him of some memories he charishes. It was a lot easier to change his habits to get high into something else after that.

Overdosing him with real aerosols wouldn't work. Maybe just give him cans full of nothing but fake aerosols? Lmao, see if he can tell the difference. Sort of like a placebo. I wonder if eventually his sense of smell will die and it'll be a lost cause. Even after he loses his smell, I've known people to still want to get high after they don't feel that high anymore.

See. He blew it. He could've gotten 50% disability for his PTSD (if he has it) because he wasn't dumb. But now he is going to lose all benefits. In addition it came to light he was abusing Ambien (i didn't even know you could, but apparently 30 pills in 2 days is a bit too many). Also, there is no telling his PTSD symptoms aren't from doing the inhalant, which he has stated gave him the same problems he was complaining about with his PTSD. He complained about Insomnia too, something very near and dear to my heart (I generally sleep 2-6 hours a night and now own 3 alarm clocks including a vibrating one, my computer alarm, and my cellphone alarm... and despite that I still slept through it today and they had to get a key to my room and there I was sleeping soundly with enough noise in my room you could hear it 50 ft away.) yet when he was being watched he slept on average 10 hours a day. As for that, I am a good soldier and get the work done and work with them on my medical problems. NOT get caught for doing something illegal and then complain that I did it because of my previously unmentioned medical problems.

oh, lol, the bitterant they put in it. The most fun was after getting him back from the ER one night he had about 8 puke piles we made him clean up.

Having to admit you have a problem is the first step to removing that problem. That's sad with PTDS; most don't get treated because they don't want to admit it (pride, masculinity, etc) or there isn't enough treatment for it for everyone.

LOL, interestingly enough yes I could sleep through a bomb going off thirty feet away. I've slept through mortar attacks, I've slept through rockets hitting the building we were in and shaking it. Lately I slept through 1200 5.56 blank rounds being shot off no more than 20 ft away. I literally, honest to god, can sleep through anything.

I actually kind of miss him now. My favorite thing was to sit quietly and not answer any of his questions at all, it drove him insane.

The likely hood of him having PTSD is almost nil. Through various conversations I've determined he's been doing this off and on for over two years, starting with the little whip it packets you buy, and then progressing to dustoff on his deployment whenever he could get it. It seems to be what he does when his wife is not around.

He lost all sympathy I would give him the first day when he told me how much he loved his wife and how they'd been together for 4 years (married for one), yet then told me how much he missed (insert base name) and how many women he hooked up with at random there during the time frame when he was engaged to his wife.

Lessons learned the hard way are always much more enriching than learning things the easy way, I'd have to say.

No, I'm quite literally not strong at all anymore. I can run about a quarter mile before I have to stop and my left arm is completely numb. he was homophobic, he kept trying to tell me who 'all the ***s are'.

I wouldn't worry about him teaching others, he'll probably die from it within 3 months of being released from prison.

I know how and why they get the highs, I've heard just how addictive they can be, but I like my brain in one piece, and working.
