mmo's aren't supposed to be fun. buying gold to get to the fun bits faster is cheating because it bypasses the work.
mmo's give you a sense of achievement, much like working in a factory. every day i get off work in the plastics factory i feel as if i've achieved something because i made thousands of clear plastic bbq sauce bottles. if an mmo doesn't feel like a second and third job, then it's easymode for pussies. if you get something everytime you do something it's being handed out. if you spend less than eight hours a day playing you are a casual and casuals are teh cancer killing mmo's. if you can't show your skills through grind how are you going to show how well you know your class when it's all RNG based mechanics. RNG is the basis for skill. without RNG every class would be faceroll easy. aion is not a game by sadists for masochists. if you aren't being punished every second turn how can you have a sense of accomplishment when that gladiator rolls on the gold dagger from FT and wins it over the assassin? __________________ QAPLAH!

and that's why daoc is the best mmo ever. you spent 7 days grinding to 50, 2 days farming, 1 day crafting armor AND THEN you went and tore it up in RVR for the reeeeest of your liiiiiiiiiife.

DAOC wasn't that way for a very long time. They didn't even have crafting initially and levelling to 50 took a month plus. Plus to fully temp youtself out, there were a number of dragon raids etc to be done. DAOC had considerable curves in it when it started out.

SI pretty much perfected daoc but even before SI you could still rvr in your epic suit if you wanted to. I don't remember when the pbaoe leveling groups started getting popular but it was before SI I think? also, dragon / darkness falls zergs happened pretty often and rarely took a long time

Let people play the way they want and do what they want. Stop getting all up in their business. I can't stand people who come here to complain about what other players do with their toons.

If something is boring, then you don't want to play. However, many aspects are NOT boring at all.
If I make $80 an hour, why should I spend 2 hours doing something boring, when I can just pay a couple of people $10 to farm for that 2 hours instead? My wage is greater than theirs. It allows me to skip what I think is boring - it's the same reason why someone would hire someone to mow their lawn on the weekend instead of doing it themselves. Personally, I don't buy gold, but I can see the thought process of those who do. I also think that gold buying is bad not because of the act, but rather because of the underground cyber-crime it generates (i.e. the illegal account hacking, the credit card identity theft, etc). __________________

Why did SK/nilihum (now ensidia) openly tell everyone they bought gold back in BC?
Because they were the best in the world, how were they best in the world? They BOUGHT gold so they didnt have to spend anytime grinding it, therefore they could use their time doing everything to push their raiding progression People who buy gold generally just want to hit level cap or complete something quicker than someone else. Think of it this way, If you were in the olympics for the 800m hurdle or whatever and you could bribe someone so that you get to run a straight 800m without any hurdles against the other hurdlers, what would you do? (My idea is that, people who buy gold would say they would bribe some guys so they get a straight 800m, where as proper players would say they wouldnt :P) __________________

MMOs ARE meant to be fun.
Everyone has different ideas on how to get to the fun bit, some love to grind to 50 in a week, some like to max crafting in a week. Those people will buy and maybe even sell gold if given the opportunity. Some are already selling their accounts on ebay. The botfarmers aren't playing for fun , they're providing a service that some people clearly are using. Want to PvP with friends/family/random people right now? Buy a powerlevel. Want to craft stuff for your new legion right now? Buy some gold. Need that rare drop or 100/100 quest items - get a bot to do it. Seems to me that those people are doing what NCSoft is not doing, they're fixing the economy without having to alter loot tables or kinah drops, they're fixing the xp curve by taking the grind out of it for you without having to adjust xp rates or mob availability. Buying in-game items with real life cash isn't new, micro transactions occur in other MMOs and you can buy DLC for many of your favourite games. If you can buy an item with RL cash from NCSoft and then sell it for in-game cash, is this *really* any different from buying in-game cash directly? Sure it's not through NCSoft but is that even really an issue? Of course I'm just playing Devils Advocate but you know.. Last edited by lwdog; 11-03-2009 at 05:23 AM.. |

Seriously?
You pay for a video game and you are paying for something that's not fun? If I'm not having fun, I'm certainly not paying for that privilege. __________________

![]() ~~~~~~~~~ I get that a lot of people see grinding as a chore, what I don't get is why not just leave and play something you enjoy? Is someone holding a gun to these people's heads, forcing them to keep playing Aion, or at the very least forcing them to keep whinging on about how much they hate it? About RMT...My real dislike of gold buyers stems from what RMT does to the in-game economy. Trade on BNet West back when I played D2 was hardcore retarded because of all the RMT that went on. Duped items with mad enhancements, hacked items with ridiculously overpowered stats, as well as "legit" items could all be bought off eBay or from other websites - they actually recruited farmers in the chat channels! - so the currency was constantly changing, from SOJ to runes to charms to gems and back again. Trade channels were nothing but RMT spam and if you made a game without a pass the bots would come in and spam there, too. You also had to worry about hackers and exploits, because I think we can all agree that where the farmers go, so go the account hackers. This went on FOR YEARS and sucked river oysters. Blizz finally fixed it with the 1.10 patch but by that time most of my friends had quit and moved to GW, so I followed suit. THAT is why I get riled up by gold sellers and buyers. They skew the economy and bring a nasty element on their coattails. __________________ Sig by RshmThere's nothing wrong with leaving a game and giving your reasons why on the games forum. Another way to look at it is that NCSoft designed themselves into a hole in this manner.
Example, everything cost Kinah to make, do, travel, level crafting etc. Even dying is costly and/or expensive. Thus the never ending need for some Kinah to help out a normal average joe player who obviously makes more money in real life than in game causes him to purchase some Kinah to help a bit. Maybe he never purchased Kinah before, maybe it's his first time. Who knows, we certainly do not have the statistical knowledge of who that person is. If NCSoft suddenly removed huge amounts of Kinah sinks, prices would drop on objects. If NCSoft suddenly removed huge amounts of Kinah gains, prices would drop on objects. There would be no need to buy Kinah, if there was not such a need for Kinah. Hell, some quests contain items that can be PURCHASED at the Broker. If that doesn't encourage Kinah buying then I don't know what does. (buy Kinah, buy quest item, get exp = faster leveling etc.) The only thing that I can see that NCSoft did correct is with the introduction of Abyss points to purchase armor, etc. I really think this helped as another source of non-tradable currency. Sure someone can bot and get huge amounts of Abyss Points this way, but atleast they have a higher chance of being killed while doing so. Bah, whatever, that's just one person's opinion. |
