I get that a lot of people see grinding as a chore, what I don't get is why not just leave and play something you enjoy? Is someone holding a gun to these people's heads, forcing them to keep playing Aion, or at the very least forcing them to keep whinging on about how much they hate it?

About RMT...My real dislike of gold buyers stems from what RMT does to the in-game economy. Trade on BNet West back when I played D2 was hardcore retarded because of all the RMT that went on. Duped items with mad enhancements, hacked items with ridiculously overpowered stats, as well as "legit" items could all be bought off eBay or from other websites - they actually recruited farmers in the chat channels! - so the currency was constantly changing, from SOJ to runes to charms to gems and back again. Trade channels were nothing but RMT spam and if you made a game without a pass the bots would come in and spam there, too. You also had to worry about hackers and exploits, because I think we can all agree that where the farmers go, so go the account hackers.

This went on FOR YEARS and sucked river oysters. Blizz finally fixed it with the 1.10 patch but by that time most of my friends had quit and moved to GW, so I followed suit.

THAT is why I get riled up by gold sellers and buyers. They skew the economy and bring a nasty element on their coattails.

Why is Gold buying bad? For those of you who stupidly support it in this thread or those of you who ignorantly "can see their point of view", you arent just getting your stuff easily by buying gold, you are cluster-f*cking the gaming expirience for the rest of us by the ripple effect it causes. I could give two nyerks how you get your crap, because in the end, I got mine the honest way and that way is more respectable. But when your way screws with MY gameplay that I pay for then yeah, I'm nyerked and now its my problem and you should be dealt with. Period.

Wow, I'm impressed that this thread kept going.

While I can understand why some players wouldn't want to deal with the pain of grinding for things, there are other games that cater to those players much better than Aion. Games with micro-transactions, for example, allow for these bonuses; the options are built into the game.

I wouldn't expect micro-transactions to keep the in-game economy stable, though. I'd expect severe inflation if players wanted to auction off or sell their hard-earned loot or crafted items. If players could buy kinah or gear in order to enjoy other aspects of the game, there wouldn't be much need for an in-game economy.

I say, if RMT benefits weren't built into the game, then they shouldn't be used. It's like bribing someone for benefits while hard-working people lag behind.

here's a question that came up about the blizzard pets;

If you buy a blizzard pet from their new store, then trade the code for gold, is that wrong?

It says explicitly that you do not have to use it on your account after buying it.

That would be awesome of Blizzard to do. It would effectively be them implementing EVE's PLEX system (you can buy a 30 day time code and sell it for in-game currency).

No MMO is going to get rid of gold selling, it is going to happen... the best thing they can do is to help mitigate the damage it does to the economy. So far the best way to do this is to eliminate the real money from the equation. Offer players a way to buy gold without creating a secondary market for said gold.

Let people buy stuff from the company (plex, pets, etc) and sell it to players for in-game money. Then go after people who buy gold for money from RMT sites with strict, but fair penalties such as deleting of all gold on the characters, destruction of a player's highest level armor/weapon, etc. Banning doesn't do anything but make people quit... the risk of having their level 50 gold weapon deleted will be enough to push people towards buying gold through 'legit' means.

I normally discover the users on game forums sites who complain and moan the loudest about currency buying for "X" game are normally the ones who are doing it. Im just honest and say yes I have bought in WoW gold and Lineage 2 Adena.

I've bought gold in EVE. But only through the PLEX system, a bit more expensive.. but 100% less likely to have my account nyerked with.

The funniest thing is, and i know this first hand, People who buy kinah are the exact same people who complain about bots 24/7.
Which is ironic because those bots are farming their gold :P

A good friend of mine buys kinah all the time and yet he ALWAYS complains about bots, every chance he gets
