Point of followers on Twitter?

I really don't get it.

Generally my girlfriend knows where I am or is with me most of the time, and if any of my friends want to know what I'm doing, they can shoot me a text. That pretty much covers everyone important in my life.

I mean with subscribers on YouTube you get paid for it eventually, quite a bit.. but, is having a mass amount of followers on Twitter (actual people, not bands or businesses) just for people who think their lives are interesting enough that many people should read about them?

There is also that toilet that sends a tweet out every time it is flushed.. seriously. What an attention nyerk.

Me neither, I simply do not understand what the general idea behind this is. For a small phenomenon, this could be some for of weird fetish, but sites like twitter have millions of users..I don't get it.

I don't even understand how twitter works, I spent 30 minutes trying to figure out how people use it, I don't get it. I can't write a message or reply and you can't create a discussion..it's totally weirdo.

This is how I look at it: Why would I want anyone to constantly know what I'm doing everyday? Honestly, what's the point? Other than being an attention-nyerk, I see absolutely no reason for this.

Myspace and Facebook were bad enough -- but twitter totally took the cake in my book.

Your ineptitude to use it like million other people doesn't make it bad. It's a matter of preference.

I'd rather twitter some friends than SMS them because other friends can see it too (not mentioning the different carriers, taxes, etc). And I don't need to be in my PC at all which is very good for quickies. Links, images, tendencies... well, if you don't have enough contacts or don't like communication market, you'll never see or feel its power.

That's just it.

If I wanted to hang out with friend "x", I'd just call/text him to do so. But if I twittered it, everyone would see it, resulting in 1) More people possibly wanting to tag along which wasn't my original intention 2) Going to what I was originally saying - Letting everyone know what I'm doing at all times of the day.

I do like the communications market, I just feel it's unnecessary. Personally, I have an iPhone, and I'm always up-to-date on technology stuff, but something like this just seems utterly useless and basically is satisfying all your noisy friends/family.

But hey, if you're for updating it every few hours of the day for the shear purpose of "so my friends can see what I'm doing", that's ridiculous in my eyes.

Why would anyone be interested on what we do all day anyway? Stalkers?

I use it mostly to talk to other people, or a movie I just saw and wanna say if it was good or bad

Even though the intention of twitter is what you're doing, it can be used some other ways.

But, most of the time, people ARE interested on what everyone else is doing. It's human nature
