My point is that the game should be made so that you can do both without penalty. It's not because you enjoy a certain way to play that someone else has to bite the bullet... No one should be forced to do anything, whether it's grouping or soloing.

If this is another FF11 where you HAVE to group, forget it it's appeal is already lessened. If it's a soloer's paradise, again that's not good either. If there's possibility for both then yay. Again I'm going to use LotrO as an example, you group in that game to get the good stuff, the big missions and cut scenes, there is NO way to solo those. But you can still level to max without ever doing those, but you miss out on the coolest part of the game...

well I personally do not enjoy healing, but i like having the ability to heal which is why I will be rolling a chanter > cleric. But I think clerics can hold thier own well enough

In GW every class could solo; obviously some classes were better at it then others, but I liked the balance. You couldn't go out and kill everything by yourself, but you didn't have to rely on grouping for everything.

Being a healer on almost every game for so long now, I'm going to say unless you're prepared for grouping, you should probably be rolling a dps class .

That being said, I don't think Aion would penalize for groups. As a matter of fact, the more you level, the more mobs become harder to solo. It'll be rather stupid to waste time (using all your cooldowns or potions or whatever) to kill 1 mob solo rather than grouping up and kill it much faster.

Which means, as a healer, dps will love you, Happy hunting :P

Lol, nah, I've played healer for a long time too. Then again my reason was a little different. See I enjoy holding the lives of others in my hands... ~ > <innocent look>

I also enjoy making it insanely difficult and frustrating for other factions to kill you, heh heh heh

the most recent thing i read (today) about clerics is that they were are the slowest soloing class in beta right now besides templars for damage.

it could be subject to change, it might not be.
only time will tell.

its a huge upset to me cus, those are the 2 classes i planned on boxing upon release.

Clerics dont need to be soloable.
Finding a party while being a cleric takes like 5 minutes.
Everyone is always looking for one.
You are always NEEDED if you're a cleric/priest.

I doubt as a cleric you would need to solo much anyways. And if you actually want to solo as a cleric, well, why would you want to solo as a healer? :S

I mean in WoW priests can solo yeah cause smite actually deals decent dmg now and we can always go shadow >.>

Hmm again it depends on the game, I'm prepared to accept that in Aion healers can't solo, but in other games it's perfectly fine..... I'm a minstrel in LotrO and I solo most of the time, quite easily, it takes me longer to take down mobs but I can also take down 3 at a time if I have food and potions on me.

The holy trinity needs to die honestly, otherwise you'll never get rid of this in chat:

"LFM, Healer PST"
"LFM, Tank!! PST" and ect..

If you have classes that can fill these roles as well as the main class for that role it gives the players more flexibility and creates more group dynamics instead of pigeon holing you in a certain party setup you can never change.

Anyway I'm off my soapbox ^_^ If healers can't hold their own and are only good for parties and parties in Aion have to be setup in a tradtional way, then allright, but I hope they give us more option then that, the competition will...

Healers and tanks must have sufficient power to solo easy quests,period . In nearly all MMO's this isn't the case and it's not good at all . In WoW you have /had the respec dilemma for priests and warriors ( spending large amounts of cash every time you were going into a raid to respec to holy/tank and back again to be able to farm or solo quest ) . I hope Aion doesn't go down that road .

I think soloing should be possible for healers, even if it means just having a DD pet to buff and heal, as an alternative to getting into parties. Sometimes a healer cannot get a party because you are too low level, or you just have a bad feeling about a party (as a healer always 'behind levels' from my friends, I have lost xp and items sometimes by joining a group of strangers that did not listen to me, or failed to protect me). Maybe as part of their job quest all classes should go through a tutorial on how to play in a group :)

Actually I would really like it if healers should be able to level up in other ways - not having to kill mobs for xp and items.

I have always thought it would be nice to have some kind of system where you gain xp by using your skills, instead of dealing damage to mobs. Then healers would level up the more they joined groups and healed. It would also give all the other classes would have an incentive to learn how to use their skills instead of mindlessly killing mobs. I know this is not how Aion is designed but I still dream of such a system one day :)

GW is kinda different tho'. People solo in GW not to advance in the game but rather for farming. If one uses heroes and henchmen, I don't call that soloing. :P

Self-sufficiency is what is most appealing about a healing class I think. You can rely on yourself if you feel the need to be in control..
I can't tell you how much I hate being in a group and tanking or dpsing and watching my health go down to an agonisingly low number before being healed up again...
At least I know where my next heal is coming from as a healer :P
