Are Clerics Soloable?
I had played many MMORPGs and the class I usually go for is the healer one. Like in any type of MMO, the main problem I have encountered is the ability to solo (because getting a group sometimes takes too long). The Chanter seems to possess several damage skills, an awesome staff and buffs to make the class soloable. So my big question is, can a Cleric solo?

well in my opinion and experience (70 pally and priest on wow, cleric on DDO, etc) I find that any healer class is soloable depending on your style of play
there is a way to make it work, just gotta play with it ![]() |

In GW it was putting some points into smiting and getting some AOE and Elite smite skills. At least that's how I did things when I was forced to.
In Aion Clerics seem to have a crystal they can level up/upgrade. Might be based on some skill's level or whatever, but it's still probably enough to solo with along with smites.

Well, I hope they are mainly meant for grouping. Since they are a support class.
. We'll see I guess. Cleric is the class that appeal the most to me. I must admit that they seem to have done an amazing work on Assassin as well.. but healing is my way to go.

Yeah I'm hoping that Clerics can solo for the most part as well. I'm leaning 90% towards Cleric (seems to be the norm for me in MMO's), but from what I have seen and read so far they look like they can handle their own

I hope there's no such thing as a soloable class.... Because I'd like every class to be able to solo.. Or group, not a big fan of classes that are seen as just good for solo or grouping.

The problem there Cynthe is that mmo's have become too friendly to casual players, they make it easy for that reason. People are going to want to solo, so having classes that cant solo would be the end for them.

I actually want to group, all the time. I'm rolling cleric because I want to sit there and watch health bars go up and down and keep people alive like it's nobody's business.
My biggest concern is about grouping, since if it's like WoW, I'll be heavily penalized for being in a group instead of soloing. If I have to solo with a healing class, I'm gonna spoon my wrists. |

![]() Most likely every class will be soloable, but with most healer classes, it might take longer or might be more difficult to level. |

hehe, yes : seeing clerics in action ( or healer class in any MMO) tends to do that to folks . But you should be able to at least solo up to a certain level I feel . I certainly don't want something similar to WoW-priest which forced you- practically- to use a shadowpriest build for leveling priest or for doing solo stuff .You could solo as holy but it took forever .... add to that you had/have to fork out a steep amount of cash to respec back and forth between holy and shadow and you have a design-flaw . I'll most definitely make cleric first ,immediately followed by chanter . I tend to lvl various classes at same time - always do that - because then , when you get bored with one, you can switch to your alt and it feels like new game . |

As a standard MMO, healers will be better off forming a group and killing higher level mobs than soloing.
Clerics got a few direct dmg spells, but they are NOT a DPS machine. ![]() As for the group bonus, someone needs to read korean boards and see what people say about it, WoW was definatly not encouraging you to form groups on higher level mobs outside boss encounters. |

I am really hoping that duo'ing will be good exp.
Especially for a cleric My roommate is playing cleric, and I am playing Templar. We are both banking on duo exp. But if groups is where it's at, then we can easily make a party. If there is one thing FFXI has taught me, when you play with multiple real life friends, one person should always be a tank, and another a healer. Because making a party with 2-3 DD friends usually ends up with us searching in town for a longer period of time than we get to exp. /sigh @ level 65 SAM seeking in Jeuno...
