Actually they can wear 3 of the 4 armor types

Robe / Leather / Chain

3 Types of armor allow you to have multiple setups to survive.

I wonder if a dodge cleric will appear one day

I have always wondered if a dodge setup would work on a cleric.. Since it has a blindness skill too..

It seems to me that it would be folly to not go heavier armor + shield for any kind of PvP. All of the healing power in the world might not save you if a sin jumps down your throat and takes you down before you are able to react.
