I'm Sure its Asked Alot...Critting

So I'm sure this thread has been made several times, but I'm gonna ask again anyway (plus, no sticky).

Anyway, I've heard two possible determining factors related to critting gear.

1. Having a higher skill than the piece.

I've heard that every 'x' amount of skill raises your chance to crit by 'x%'. Sounds completely reasonable, and the way I think it should work, but I doubt this is the case. I'm a tailor, and while sewing Sobi Textiles, I turned 125 whites, ~30 greens, and 12-13 blue textiles. Since I'm a much higher lvl than the pattern, if this were the case, I would have crit green much, much more than ~25%.

2. Having full DP.

This seems to be more superstitious than anything, but when thinking about it, it would make sense. Having full Daeva Power is basically bringing yourself to the purest form of Daeva (or something like that, according to lore). The lvl 30 quest for your account sharable set pieces requires you to have full DP before she gives you your piece of gear. So why not do the same while crafting?

However, it seems to be true to me. I wanted to make Shoulders, Gloves, and Pants for my lvl 38 cloth set, and only wanted blue pieces (SIDE NOTE: If any casters read this, those are the only 3 pieces you need...Asmo get run speed boots from Mistmane hairs, and Elyos get em from KHQ molars...then the Campaign gives a really nice blue chestpiece...so yeah, just an FYI ). Anyway, I crit my shoulders and pants first try with full DP. Then I tried the gloves without DP....didn't crit until my 7th attempt.

Yesterday, a guildie gave me 1.2 mil & said "Here, go buy the mats, make as many as u can, and keep the rest." I had enough to craft him eight pieces, and here is what I got - SEVEN green shoulders, and ONE green gloves, totaling ZERO blues. Needless to say, I felt really bad, and am going to try for him again some other time, but I'll make sure to have full DP, whether it be superstitious, or if it really does have an effect.

TL;DR - Are there any factors that pertain to critting while crafting that we KNOW of, and aren't just speculation?

Categorically no.

I have had guild members collect crafting information since launch. This includes examination of crafting/crit results for over 1300 craft runs across a spectrum of professions, skill levels, and DP levels.

There are no indicators which evidence a positive, significant correlation to success.

Further, looking at this in a logistic regression model, only the base crit rate (25% across our sample) is a useful predictor of success. While it is feasible that skill and DP have _some_ impact, it would be at a level of negligible practical significance.

It's roughly a 25% base crit rate which easily allows for lengthy runs of non-crits.

Since it's Korean. I'm saying it's balls random.

However, it never really hurts to try.

Farrudar crafted with full DP last night and actually FAILED to craft my gloves. Which he was awesome enough to get the mats for and attempt a second time. Still, no crits with full DP.

eh?

Doesnt the aion power wiki, created by ncsoft, clearly state that full DP inc crit rate? (I would link the artical but its blocked at work).

lol what? negligible impact? even +5% would provide great benefits. especially over long craft sessions.

actual example:

Last night I working on my lvl 38 Xilix Set.

I had enough thread to make 84 textiles. I had full DP.

I made 59 textiles, 19 Worthy textiles, & 6 Superb Textiles.

25/84 = .2976, basically 30% crit rate (or do the superbs count as 2 crits??)

Then I crafted 3 peices of armor, 1 critted (aka 33% but this pool is too small to count).

Anyhow for now I would say get ur DP full, if it helps then BONUS its helping, if not no harm done. but if it is helping and ur not using it then you could be missing out on crits.

Last night, I had to tell Az that he nyerked away 1.2 mil kinah on 8 failed attempts.

I crafted something for Phatal the other day as well. Had full DP, and my crit rate seemed to be higher.

Oh and as for being higher level (ie being 330 crafting a 290 item) just makes sure you do not fail.

1. the wiki is wrong.

2. your personal experience in your example is not reliable AT ALL because of the low amount of data.

3. there are many more examples with large amounts of data disproving this altogether.

4. look up the word 'negligible'. Obviously, when it was used where you quoted it, it was not meant to represent a value of 5%.

1: definitely no

2: It's not there now, but they used to say it does help in the powerwiki. The history page for the DP article is linked below for verification. In my experience, I've done better when I have more DP.

oh oh oh you should add to your list:
NCSoft only allows a certain number of crits per hour so if you craft at the top of the hour you get better crit rates!

(Bluemoon sits back and watches all the threads pop up from people who actually try to see if this works)

This one has worked 100% so far and I plan to use it in the future too: only craft when it's raining and your left knee hurts, you will crit every time. It's true! I used an incredibly high sample size of 4 crafts and they all critted!

Another guy in my legion is saying that holding your breath for over 5 minutes increases your crit rate too, feel free to test it.

Someone in my guild said that they stick their 4 fingers up their bum while crafting as well. I haven't tried it yet, but I intend to on my next round of armor.

Thank you guys.

A wiki is wiki wiki. User-edited, and thus 99.9% bull... stuff. Sorry mate, I personally am going to need something a lot more concrete than that.
