Fan arts

Day One on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Again, because I'm too lazy to figure out how to link images.

Preliminary sketch for if I have time, a real fan art. Consider this a WIP with an indefinite schedule :P

The story:
Day one, you gotta start somewhere. Be proud of your very first kill, even if it is just a mouse! Look at her smile!

Haven't quite got the style down yet, but at the same time, my own reference is what's in my head. Also, sorry for the poor quality, I just switched lead types to 4H, different from my normal HB, and I think I like it? But I'm still adjusting and it scans really bad. I also hope with this I encourage some more of you traditional artsy fartsy types.

Yes, I will be rolling Elyos :P

it looks like she took alot of effort by twisting her arm with making that 'peace' sign! you should draw the back of her hand, not the palm

the proportions of the human body are nearly perfect.. (wich is very hard to learn) so not bad at all! keep it up!

The right arm is... broken? I can't redo this pose right now in real-life

The arm is in fact not broken, and you can very easily recreate this pose in real life. Try it yourself, make a peace sign. You will notice your wrist and palm are facing outwards, and since nobody makes a peace sign facing the other direction, well, I don't know what else to tell you.

In fact, the forearm contains two bones, the ulna and the radius. While the ulna is stationary, the radius, as it's name implies, can rotate and does rotate around the ulna. This allows you to rotate your forearm roughly 180 degrees independently of the upper arm. While I do not understand how the forearm manages to rotate in place, this is the basic idea.

Therefore, if this is really the case, I would actually be very worried about you.

The problem here is less that the "arm is broken" because anatomically speaking, this drawing is perfectly fine, and more the appearance that she is not rotating her arm to achieve the desired effect. To remedy this, I will need to do some crazy shading or something to draw attention to the fact that her forearm is rotated. Unfortunately, I don't really know how to achieve this effect as I am entirely self-taught. I'll have to go do some learning or spend a while in front of a mirror or something. I also did have some shading, but my roommate's scanner didn't pick it up because evidently, it was too light. Not that I think the shading was right in any case.

Oh, and just so you know, this drawing was done on my homework, haha.

Maybe it's because I'm Asian that I can pull it off so easily. Though at the same time, I'm a guy and not a girl, plus I was born stateside so I don't feel a compulsion to give a victory sign anytime I want to have my picture taken ( which coincidentally is also about never ).

If it wasn't for the fact that I have a killer midterm tomorrow, I would probably be figuring out how to correctly shade the forearm right now.

No comments on the drawing outside of how the arm might be broken?

Also, about this, I don't have one, but I do know what they are. Iirc, on the good ones, you can also rotate the forearm, but you will not really see a difference. In fact, on most people, there is no difference from a naturally positioned forearm and a rotated forearm. You need to be fairly buff to make a visual difference, and I'm not even 100% sure about that.

It's not about the possibility but about the concordance between the arm and the hand pose, yeah, focing it a bit I can manage to do that hand pose, but my arm looks completely different if you look at me from the front, while your drawing is showing the extreme of the arm, it should show the back part of it as it gets closer to the hand, dunno if I explained myself correctly. And the distance between the biceps and the rest of the arm should be wider than this considering how much she is forcing.

The rest of the pic is ok, if you want constructive criticism, may i get picky? :P

Mouth is a tad too big.

Eyes are less expressive than the mouth, again a lack of concordance.

That right hand thumb has an articulation more than the common human, I cannot put my thumb's nail looking to my wrists like that, most it gets is a 90º angle, not a 180º :P

Hips and curves don't reflect what bewbs do, it's a woman with child hips.

Maybe the left arm is a bit too long.

I've been brainstorming ( during class and the drive back from class ) and all I can think of is that because the radius moves up, the top of the forearm should appear straighter while the bottom appears a bit more shapely. Also, the radius can be somewhat sketched in toward the top. Other than that, I'll need to find a reference. Regarding the arm length, I'll need a reference.

Agree, but my style isn't anime and my style isn't western, it's kind of a fusion, which would also mean that's it's not too cartoony but not life like neither. I want to emphasize how happy she is over the whole thing so some enlargement is necessary. I think the fix is to remove the upper lip and slightly decrease the height of the mouth, leaving the width as it is.

Agree, pupils need to be dilated or eyebrow arch increased. I can't really increase the eye size anymore. This also stems for the style issue.

Maybe, will need reference. No nails are supposed to be seen on the right hand except on folded fingers. It is also possible that Elyos are just special like that ( take that Asmodians! ).

A little bit, maybe, but not much. Armor isn't exactly for fitting so the bewbs will either be squashed down or emphasized a bit more. About the hips, they are kind of like plates that are secured at the top so they aren't form fitting at all. Maybe slightly increase distance and angle from the vertical.

Arms seem fine to me. I don't know, didn't use guidelines due to time constraints ( sketched on homework ).

Anywho, thanks for the critique. I was thinking roughly along the same lines, exempting the last two.

Thanks. Maybe I need to make the sword bigger. I was kinda going for the "your proud that you killed a mouse with a sword bigger than your leg!?" incredulity, but I guess it's not there.
