The Assassination of Jesse James

For anyone interested this is a great movie. Didn't get the attention it deserved if you ask me because it is truly fantastic.

Everything from acting to shooting to soundtrack makes this movie worthwhile. Should check it out if you havn't.

I have it on DVD. And the only one who really got any attention was Casey Affleck. (Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role - Oscar)

LOVED IT, LOVED IT!

This movie and 3:10 to Yuma are my two favorite recently made gunslinging movies.

I don't even really consider this to be a gun slinging movie really. Minus a couple of scenes there wasn't much slingin' of them guns.

I find it funny Casey got support role because honestly the movie was ALL about Bob Ford. Brad Pitt was the supporting actor. It definitely didn't get enough attention, the soundtrack is great (and I normally don't notice or care) the acting was superb by everyone involved. The way the scenes were shot and lit, just all of it was good. Fresh too.

I have it on Blu-ray, comes with a nice short doc about Jesse James before the events in the movie. He led a pretty interesting and brutal life.

I'm not quite sure how to take the death scene though. It was my understanding that Jesse knew the jig was up and maybe he was ready to die even. In the doc though they made it sound like the whole thing was some sort of dare. That he thought there was no way Bob would ever shoot him because he was his idol.

How'd you see it?

I looked up a trailer and it seems nice, looked it up on rottentomatoes and it gets decent reviews. It's a movie I can probably watch with my mom. Bradd Pitt is a good actor in my book, so I don't mind seeing him.

Critics say it's too long-winded, but I like long movies, hate action packed movies. I'll check it out.

Yeah my father in law thought the movie was a little too dramatic and not enough gun fighting. But then again he had just finished watching 3:10 to Yuma.

From what I read, Jesse knew that he was about to die. There was something in the scene that sort of made me think the same thing. Even my husband thought he knew what was coming.

I was also saw on tv that Jesse James (tv reality star) is the real life descendant of the real Jesse James. Don't know if that's really true or not.

On a side note, this isn't about the movie but Robert Duvall is also the real life descendant of General Robert E. Lee.

Yeah like I said in the documentary they made all said that Jesse was being ****y. Beforehand they all said that Jesse was very much in love with his own legend. As it became more difficult (in his later years) to find partners to ride with he started surrounding himself with people like the Ford boys who were also pretty smitten with his legend and were basically *** kissing yes men. I definitely think he was a tortured fellow. Had his share of demons and problems and was ready to pass on.

They questioned why he liked Bob (or at least kept him around) and from the movies depiciton I thought he really got off on torturing him. Everytime he'd make love to Jesse, Jesse would say something to totally wipe the smile off Bob's face. I think he really got hard playing with his emotions like that.

Funny you mention that he may be an actual descendent because there is a picture of a young Jesse James and I looked at it and I thought to myself, 'Wow does that look a lot like motorcycle turd Jesse James."

I have the book written by Yeatman which is supposed to be a pretty complete history of both Frank and Jesse. Reading it now to get a better insight on their lives.

If they were to make a movie about Jesse's time in the Civil War they'd sell a lot of tickets. Lots of action and would let audiences see where he came from.

As for Duvall, I can see that.

Did you like how they actually put Jesse James' body on display? A bit odd don't you think? lol

And speaking of motorcycle Jesse James, how do you go from Janine to Sandra Bullock? Porn to Hollywood...funny how that works? He left Janine for Sandra and apparently Janine was convicted of tax evasion and sentenced to 6 months in prison. She gets out in September...I don't know what either of them saw or see in him. Yuck!

Well they did it with Lenin in Russia :P

It is strange but he was such a massive celebrity it's not surprising. Sort of like the Pope, people want to see him after he's dead. I think he actually would have been quite amused by it, more so if he could talk back to everyone. XD

And Sandra is way hotter than Janine lol. I'd definitely tap that.

Benito Mussolini and his mistress were also put on display but in a much more gruesome and significant way. Basically to show the world that Fascism would not be tolerated any longer. They were both executed by being shot. I knew about this previously but here is an excerpt...

Quote:
On April 29, 1945, the bodies of Mussolini and his mistress were taken to the Piazzale Loreto (in Milan) and hung upside down on meathooks from the roof of a gas station, then stoned by civilians from below. This was done both to discourage any fascists from continuing the fight and as an act of revenge for the hanging of many partisans in the same place by Axis authorities. The corpse of the deposed leader became subject to ridicule and abuse.

Saw it on BR too..it's got good intentions, but I'm having great difficulty in just trying to watch it for a second time. I've seen the film Into the Wild on dvd, and I though that was just great. Some films when first released dont have much of an audience but grow through word of mouth. The Shawshank Redemption Flopped when first released, but ppl started watching it on video, now its regularly voted in the top ten of critics and people's all time films.
