It's not going to be the same as WoW's grind, they have stated it's going to be less than L2's grind, but more than WoW's.

I'm pretty sure there's a reason WoW is the most popular MMO in the world right now.

----
IMO
Challenge/fun > time/effort

But i completely see how you could like time and effort though, a lot of people play mmo's for the sense of accomplishment, and if thats what brings fun to you, have at it =)
>.> argh dont know how to multiquote (the button phailed).

Even tho i'm Bungle's brother, i'm still agreeing with him on that, you're also right Postiez. FFXI did indeed take alot of time and effort to get up to the end of the games content, but there was also lots of challenges along the way

- to do with main storys: the CoP (Chains of Promathia) expansion for example (people complained it was too hard... So SE gimped the whole thing in a patch to make it easier) I on the other hand liked the struggle. The need to have to think up actual strategys and to work as a solid team rather than using any old random party setup and just running in guns blazing so to speak (lawl j00 gunna diez iffs u doo dat) <.<;

- there was also things like BCNM/KSNMs where you would enter arenas to fight special mob(s) with set restricted numbers of party members ranging from teams of 3, all the way to 18. these fights where also accompanied with time limits and in certain ones, level caps. eg: 6 person party, 30min time limit, at lvl60 cap. having a good strategy was vital to your success in these types of fights (very good challenges and fun to do with groups of your mates ^^), upon winning these, item crate appears, pop it open, take your rare items (and trash too)

All in all. FUN=CHALLENGE+EFFORT+TIME. EASY=BORING :3
Fun = Challenge(easy games grow boring/tedious fast) + Effort(can't be too easy you dont have to think about what you're doing) + Time(getting to endgame within a month or two would suck, take in the sights, quests, crafting, and learn your class :P)

so when you get to endgame, you will have a firm understanding of the game mechanics, and how to use your character to its full potential ^^ , then everyone can have fun together (aww group hug >.>)

omg >.> wall of txt.. (ok... its alot for me)

It seems like you count challenge and effort as the same thing, to me its really not, to me effort is more time then time challenge. To me the ideal game doesn't take a lot of time to play, but when you do play its never easy.

My post sounded like I was kinda being sarcastic when I really wasn't, I play wow, I understand working for something for a long time and finally getting and feeling great. But i don't think that its necessary to have a lot of time involved. Personally I don't like leveling, I have more fun improving my skill at the game at max level.

I don't really know where im going with this, but ya, thats my feelings on your post.

semi-agreed: personally i feel dissapointed in a game if you can play through it quickly, but yes it should never be too easy.

im not here for rants (well >.> maybe one will come out at some point, but not here), i can understand you like to achieve your goals asap, but improving on your skill only at max level? shouldn't your skill be improving all the time as your progress through the game? then when you are at the max level you are a genuine help to the team rather than slowing them down while you just about start to hone your skills? sorry that sounded harshish, maybe i missed abit here or there (been a long day). but yea, each person has their own way of doing things as they're entitled to. i was just interested why you'd want to wait till max lvl before you began to work on your skills.

So my question to you is, is WoW grinding hard?? Or am I just a noob with a short attention span? I played WoW for a year and my account spawned numerous level 10s, a level 16, a level 31, and a level 48. So is it just me...or do others think WoW grinding was difficult?
I said no just so I wouldn't call you a 'noobcake', lol.

Grinding in WoW seems to me to be more class based... for example the Hunter and Rogue make really good soloists... And I had a friend that juggled a half a dozen mobs per fight by fear bombing and DOTing them like crazy. Priests on the other hand are pretty much forced to group level...

But like many people already said, you don't grind mobs in WoW, you grind quests.

WoW? Grinding? these words don't mix. Try Lineage 2, then you may understand a little about grinding.

Guess I really am a noob...oh well. But let me clear this up. I don't like grinding solo or when its not challenging. Ya no, wen its so boring and so easy its a challenge to keep your eyes open?? Thats what I'm talkin about sorta, the only times grinding is fun is wen ure with another talkative person...when that happened I could grind for hours...but I still don't like grinding in general.

you're problem was you ignored the quest part, the most important part.
if you want to play Aion when it comes out - try the actual quest system or whatever system they implement to help you level quickest. I guarantee it wont be mob grinding either. sure it will take time, it will take most people time and the idea is to HAVE FUN and to learn/understand the game while you do it. Maybe get some friends to play along with you or something, remember its a game not a chore.

Wow is a Grindfest-

Quest- 90% of them ask you to kill mobs- GRIND***

Instances full of mobs and a boss you have to kill- GRIND***

PVP honor and reputation for items- GRIND ***

ALL reputations for mounts gear or w/e- GRIND***

wow is one big giant grind fest its just hidden int he form of quest and instance hunting-

Sure a quest asks you to kill 15 mobs in a super far away area which takes 30 minutes to get to with that annoying bat flight path.

BUT YOUR STILL KILLING 15 MOBS-

Another annoying thing about wow ( Aside from EVERYONE going to thottbot for all info ... I mean seriously your not even playing the game anymore your just a zombie following a straight forward path like everyone else )

your quest 89% of the quest time your LOOKING for your quest item or quest mob or zone instead of actually doing it.. soooo boring ...

For its childish community- bad graphics and horrible 4 second casts combat system with very bad mechanics such as "channeled" spells.

this game just cannot have that much boredom... lineage is uber grind but its visually pleasing and it has flare.... I don't play it anymore but at least they gave you something..

What does wow give you??
BARRENS CHAT- thats what..
--

ps- Also in Wow- You can't even take a p00p by yourself.. everything requires huge parties.... and having an extensive online wow clan or "circle of friends" is soo 12 years old im sorry.
