Starsiege: Tribes 4 on its way! (Fallen Empire: Legions)

Yep... thats right!, the orginal 4 members of the Dynamix team that founded Garage games are creating a new game similiar to the Tribes series using their own engine and title (vivendi owns the rights to the tribes name). They stated a possible test phase may be within the next few months!... looks very promising.

the biggest thing that i was concerned about was skiing... they stated it wont be called skiing... but more like how the original starsiege tribes was only this time be intentional, not as a bug =)

Sounds interesting. I never played Tribes, but it looks fun. Rather wish I could get a Halo 3 PC port, though. :l

I played Tribes but was never very good at it. The third installment was a disappointment IMO, though I did follow it from Beta to release (but never actually purchased it after playing it at a Lan Zone). If they could refine and make it like the old tribes (solid/fun) then I'd give it a shot.

I liked Tribes a lot. Thing is, though, I liked Earthsiege and Starsiege a lot more. Maybe just because Prometheus was such an awesome character to use as a villain.

well keep in mind this game is being developed by the makers of Starsiege: tribes.... they had nothing to do with Tribes 2 and Tribes Vengeance which both suck

I haven't looked at the links yet, but being a T1 purist (T2 and Vengeance were both massive disappointments to me), I would love to see a throwback to the original game (which I still think is the single best video game ever created). Pancakes, if this isn't old school in the sense I'm thinking (skiing, vehicles very unimportant or non-existent) I'm going to be very mad at you for getting my hopes up. I've been wanting a T1 update for a loooong time.

Tim Aste: I don't think vehicles add anything in most of the game modes we're creating right now. Vehicles always sound cool as a marketing feature, but as a player, I find most of the time developers get them wrong. It's too easy to have the vehicles overpowered, or have them feel tacked on and cheesy. We don't have to compromise our design in order to satisfy some back-of-the-box bullet point list, which is one of the things we're doing differently. So, vehicles would go in if they felt necessary, but they don't so far. We'll see what the future holds in "live development".

As for the gameplay, the jetpacks seem to last a long time. One of the things I didn't like about vengeance is they seemed to make the boosting a lot simpler/easy to learn. That's not, at the core, a bad thing, but in the game I just didn't think it felt right. It's kinda an unreasonable criticism to make, I know, since it's entirely subjective and doesn't say anything as to how to fix the problem. Honestly, though, all I want in a game like this is a graphics update on the old game. If literally every mechanic and weapon was identical to the original, with some new maps and all the old classics (broadside doesn't count, but raindance is a must... actually, bring broadside for ****s and giggles), I would be happy. The game is just unique, and so much more fun than everything else I've played... every other shooter just seems generic, too slow, too chaotic, too easy, too much about who sees the other guy first, or something. Tribes was just... perfect.

If the game has vehicles that are a useful part of the game it's not old school tribes.
