Lol, Im pretty sure people on AS play, since most of us are FF hogs. Anyways, I'd advise you to read this review of the game from years ago: IGN: Final Fantasy XI Review

The game's far ahead (like 3 expansion packs ahead) from this review, and, although he's being fair, it's actually a ton better than he makes it sound. You see, the number one problem with FFXI is that it is the hardest MMORPG ever made. You can't do anything by yourself once you get past level 10 or so (highest is level 75). You must have a party for anything you want to do, and monsters are no pushovers for even a party of 6. Getting one level off, like from level 17-18, could take like an average of 2 hours. Everyone's broke because you can't make a good supply of money without docking a few hours of farming, in which the money will be gone as soon as you buy one thing. You get money in a weird pattern: Level up, get new gear, level up some more, sell old gear and scrounge enough money together for one new piece of armor. Continue to wander around broke, find some kind of "money trick", like a quest that gives an item worth a lot of money but you can't re-do it. You shouldn't have to resort to tactics like that. I think all the money problems in the game have been fixed, though. Prices of items are at the normal range (there was a massive inflation point where no one could buy anything). It's ridiculously hard.

Apart from that, if difficulty doesn't scare you off, then this is definitely the best MMO out there. The atmosphere, the community, the music, the storyline, the class and combat system (there's like 18 different jobs, each with very unique powers), are all soooo heavily underrated and ignored.

Well I did buy it like 3 years ago with Chains of promathia and rise of Zilart - cept I was at uni at the time and it wouldn't let the connection through... I just spotted my box for it this morning and decided to give it a bash... PlayOnline is updating -- 1hr left -_- Not even gotten round to installing the game yet ffs =(

Ok nevermind, FFXI won't install on Vista, dispite following their "vista guide" on the website... So I won't be playing, lol.

FFXI does install on Vista, I have it installed on all 3 of my PCs and they all 3 have Vista.
