Only thing i can say is that Silkroad Online is only for botters. 90% of the people use bots there. I also started Rohan yesterday, when i got to level 7 i already saw 3 bots fighting for mobs. So i don't think there are any decent free MMO's, because when they are free there will be no good support.

EDIT: Btw. What about Fury Online? I heard it's completely F2P now (didn't you need to buy the game before?). I'm currently downloading the client as the features tell "Player skill is rewarded not hours played". I wonder if that's true.

It's 2 months of free play, with massive amounts of free in game gifts and a freaking discount on the next expansion. The promotion is given to people who quit prior to april 2008.

I tried fury, didnt like it, was too buggy. There are 3 options of the game, the most features you get from buying it, but you can still play on limited features for free. I still think it takes time to get gear, as its all arena pvp to get new gear, however its a huge button masher, choppy, un-polished and I didnt enjoy it at all, was worse than Rohan.

i'm currently alternating between 9Dragons, Rohan and Perfect World, and all three have something to recommend them, as does Archlord.
all four have their faults, but every game has its faults (except Aion, of course ^^), whether it's p2p, b2p (buy to play; ie Guild Wars) or f2p. it's always just a question of whether the faults outweigh the features; in my case, i find that the features of 9Dragons, Rohan and Perfect World outweigh their failings. |

Well, I did a stint of F2P MMOs for a wile, mostly researching them, playing very few of them, from what I've learned, there are a few advanced ones and a few new ones which are rather promising.
I played Cabal last, and it has some fairly fun combat mechanics, everything besides that is complete crap.... EVERYTHING. I also hear alot about 2Moons, I hear it has some solid gameplay, and a really immature theme, not just behavior, but the theme of the game. Two promising titles which are either recent or in betas are Requiem (the bloodymare), which is gory sadistic.... gory MMO with some pizzaz, and Mythos which is supposedly a next generation Diablo type game. I know D3 is being announced, but that just means it will be out after Aion... so what's the point in that? For more info I would check out tentonhammer, they have a very extensive list of MMOs including a continous analysis of the F2P genre. I for one think there is alot missing out of the MMO experience beyond F2P and I have a hard time hoping for poorly supported and often simply ported MMOs to achieve my interests... I wasn't even satisfied with GW when it was all said and done, if they can't provide enough support and completion in a retail F2P game than how well can a P2P game be? There's always counterstrike..... never gets old, and there are other shooters too.

Honestly I'm having loads of fun with Requiem.
If I'm not mistaken it's done by the people who made Ragnarok Online, and they've taken a few steps away from Kiddy and onto Gorey-Horror-Bloodbath. In my opinion, the right direction. I think I'll be messing with Requiem until Aion is finally released. |
