Also, often in Jackie Chan's movies, many of the flashier/sillier attacks would not significantly hinder the opponent from fighting back, rendering them useless, which is not the case when an expert Muay Thai practitioner knees you in the stomach. Muay Thai teaches not to strike unless it will seriously damage the opponent. Useless blows only open up your defense. The knee and elbow attacks Muay Thai is known for are some of the most devastating blows of any martial arts style.

Whether or not the blows are delivered in an effective way...I've never seen a guy stand there waiting to get hit in a real fight. Even if unable to dodge or block a strike there would be
some kind of reaction before the strike hits. That's what I meant with regards to the look of the Ong Bak fights.
