Wonder how much the upgrade to an AionCatgirl would cost...

There are fat Japanese girls, Ive seen pics. But like Demon said, they arent common, and they still somehow manage to not look humongous.

English speakers get the funny looks because Japanese is a fluid language. English is full of hard stops and broken off words. Theres no accent on certain parts of words; you dont stress the middle or last or first part of a word. So you would say ari-ga-to not ari-gAH-to. heh

It's because they don't drink soda with all their meals nor eat junk food every day. Shocking, I know, especially if you're a lower class American.

With the risk of generalizing, there aren't that many fat japanese people simply because they don't (usually) have a diet that allows it. Lots of rice, noodles, fish and other food that generally doesn't lead to obesity makes japanese people generally slim. Japan is great in some ways, less positive in others. Since we've already covered some of the awesome-ness, the less things seems like a good place to start, with the school system (largest number of school-related suicides in the world) and the general shy and skittish-ness topping that list for me. I prefer to see Japan as a porcelain doll. Nice to look at (especially the girls and women) but not something to seriously mess around or be involved with - it's just a doll. Of course, i base this on personal experience with a number of japanese/asian women. If i were to meet a warm, earthy and honest japanese/asian girl who didn't act like a shy blowfish publically and intimately, that might change things for me. I doubt that'll happen though :

Oh. Another big no-no for me is the encouragement and focus upon looking androgynous (especially for men) or seeing that specific trait as attractive. I prefer diversity between the sexes, physical as well as mental.

Haha, yea I got that look a lot. It was very much like the classic "deer in the headlights" look. I think I threw a lot of them off because I'm Asian (Filipino), but I speak fluent English with an American accent. I blended in perfectly in a crowd, but as soon as I opened my mouth to ask questions... classic gaijin ^_^

I agree with some of your points. Yes, Japan does have one of the highest suicide rates in the world. Not just school-related, I think most of it is related to the huge unemployment problem over there which was caused by an economic recession in the 1990s. In 2007 (coincidentally, that's the year I visited the country) there were figures published stating that 30,093 people took their lives that year. The suicide rates are highest among men (they make up 71% of the total) in their thirties.

Here is an article with more details.
Japan gripped by suicide epidemic - Times Online

When it comes to people over there, the women in particular, I found the ones I met to be warm and friendly. Maybe it was because I was lucky I guess. When I finally met my Japanese pen pal for the first time, she turned out to be just as energetic and friendly in person as in her emails. My opinion will probably change as I continue to visit Japan more and meet different people over there. Even with the high unemployment and economic problems they are facing, I would definitely consider living there for a while some day.
