haha, actually, my response to this thread is

"been there done that."

Some of you might remember me going to Japan early this year. Stayed there for 3 weeks with 9 other friends.

And yes i've been to a maid cafe. twice. I won a sticker photo of the maid girls as a prize for beating a maid at a game. (playing the game cost me 500 yen) Yay souvenir.

A few friends and I wanted to find a maid cafe where you play ps2 with them for an hour, and get omuraisu (rice + omelet), all for 1500 yen. But we couldn't find it :< Oh well, next time perhaps.

The experience...is really really peculiar. I found it funny and weird at the same time. Kinda hard to describe. Maybe you guys should go to Akihabara and check it out yourself ^^

What the hell? This is really weird, and with the maids, there should be other themes, a office lady, a clerk, a schoolgirl, wait this is even weirder... >.> Japan is a whole new world, but I'll still give it a visit and might get frightened to death with the bizarre culture.

They probably hide the fat people in other sections of the city and lock them there and deem it red light district or something.

Actually there are other themes. I remember seeing a school girl dressed cosplay with 2 old salary men. Also, one of the maid cafe's i went to was cat themed - the maids had ears and tails ^^"

I have a native Japanese friend who found Akiba scary. Probably for similar reasons.

You should've just taken her home. Them Japanese are small folks. Hell, you bring an extra large suitcase and I'm sure you could fit her best friend too :P Now that's a souvenir to call home about. Make sure you poke holes in the suitcase, you wouldn't want your awesome adventure to turn into not so awesome manslaughter / murder. I don't know what to tell you about bathroom privileges though, however, I do know they would surely be adverse to being soaked in their own pee.

Lots of rice, noodles, fish and other food that generally doesn't lead to obesity makes japanese people generally slim. Japan is great in some ways, less positive in others. Since we've already covered some of the awesome-ness, the less things seems like a good place to start, with the school system (largest number of school-related suicides in the world) and the general shy and skittish-ness topping that list for me. I prefer to see Japan as a porcelain doll. Nice to look at (especially the girls and women) but not something to seriously mess around or be involved with - it's just a doll. Of course, i base this on personal experience with a number of japanese/asian women. If i were to meet a warm, earthy and honest japanese/asian girl who didn't act like a shy blowfish publically and intimately, that might change things for me. I doubt that'll happen though :

Oh. Another big no-no for me is the encouragement and focus upon looking androgynous (especially for men) or seeing that specific trait as attractive. I prefer diversity between the sexes, physical as well as mental.
They're not fat because it's hard to be fat in Japan. It's not there food, I've heard many Japanese women talk about how the same food they eat in Japan makes them fat in America. It's the ammount of walking they do. You spend enough time walking around everywhere each week that you burn all the calories you eat. The "fat" (you really can't call anyone in Japan fat if you're familiar with America) girls either are taking a few too short-cuts on the bus, or it's just their natural fat storing genetics. (again though I don't see people with husky genetics as fat)

I've seen a lot of Japanese women come to America for vacation or for a long-stay and they always gain weight the first week because they have to adjust to reduced excercising and increased sitting on your *** in a car. Then they go back to about "normal" after they change what they eat.

yep the formula is: make crap quality food with ****** ingredients for dirt cheap, brainwash advertisement or compel by social class, then when the effect happens (obesity, heart disease etc.) they prey on you with drugs or fad diets and gimmicks to further profit and ensure the cycle continues. god bless america
