I've seen some people saying that DP increases the crit rate for crafting, and others who say it doesn't. I wanted to test this out for myself, so I did an experiment today and can confirm that it does not increase crit rate...at least not for cooking. :(

Note:
I do not consider 1 extra crit (out of 100) to be anything to write home about.

For both tests I crafted "Kirka nyerktail" which was white to me (later turned grey). I decided to do this one since it was pretty much guaranteed that I wouldn't get any failures. I also had a tonn of Vinna and Kirka since I harvest the hell out of those for the petals. You can also turn a bit of a profit (if you gather all the Vinna and Kirka yourself) by simply selling the finished product to the cooking merchant.

----------------------------------------

Test 1
Crafting: 100 Kirka nyerktail
DP: 1 full level (2,001 to be precise)
Tasty Kirka nyerktail (crit): 54
Test 2
Crafting: 100 Kirka nyerktail

Does anyone know the details of how to obtain the title, or whether or not it exists? I keep hearing two different stories. One says that you have to do all these quests, and you eventually wind up getting the title for cooking.

The second story is that they removed titles for individual crafting, and that you now have to become an expert in 2 crafts, and then you just get the title.

Does anyone know which is true? If it's the first one where you have to do quests, where do the quests start?

Howdy,

I would like to get away from simply doing non stop work orders to level cooking. With alchemy, you could get to x40 just by doing the subcomponents (same goes for all the other professions). However, cooking doesn't really have that, so I would like to know how you all jump through the tiers.

Which foods do you focus on, and just make a crap ton to get the skills?

Which tier would you start considering actually making food to sell? 200's? 300's?

Any other tips you can think of for leveling WITHOUT simply spamming work orders.

Cheers,

The Benefits of Cooking (Thread/Future Guide)

Right, given the relatively lengthy state of the 'Do folks not understand food' thread, someone suggested making a thread praising the virtures of cooking items. So I am going to start this off.

The intended result of this will be:

* A final guide that will be posted on General Guides.
* Faction-neutral
* States advantages of food for various classes.
* States advantages of food under various situations (grinding, instances, PvP, specific encounters, etc.)

Optionally, this might also include:
* Where to get ingredients for food

Skilling/Brokering advice will be outside the scope of this guide - its intended for the general population, not for cooks themselves.

What I'd like is input on the following:

* What food is requested of you, by whom and for what purposes?
* Anecdotal evidence of your own experience with food and how it benefitted you.
* Theorycrafting (not necessarily hardcore elitist jerk-style math, but reasoned arguments as to why buff a might be better than buff b for a particular situation).

What I'm not interested in:

* Whining about the craft. This includes going on about how things should be nerfed/buffed.
* Saying Alchemy is better or similar rubbish.
* Off topic posts (suh)

This should cover most of the early parts, and I'll update this page with information as we go along. Once we have enough information I'll produce a rough guide and post it here; and then when its ready it will be posted on General Guides. Input will be credited; though its very possible we won't all agree on everything.

Will start adding input myself on this... alas its back to work so will have to add more later. But lets get started regardless.

----

(Guide in progress - draft chapters follow)

----

Recipe Overview
The following is a list of the types of food that can be cooked in Aion.

Standard Food Types:
Bulgogi
Highest Asmodian: Tayga Bulgogi
Highest Elyos: Frillneck Bulgogi
Attack +10 and Magic Boost +50

This food item is a flat DPS increase, for your physical attack and your magic boost. Whilst most classes might benefit from both to a certain extent, the fact that all classes would definitely choose one or the other highlights how redundant this food item tends to be. Simply put, Bulgogi can be used by almost anyone and be a benefit - but you certainly wouldn't -choose- to use it. As such it is mostly value-less and not worth getting.

Dumpling
Highest Asmodian: Snuffler Dumpling
Highest Elyos: Perer Dumpling
Max HP +200 and Max MP +200

As a recipe that does not boost any of the DPS stats but simply increases both the mana and health pools, this recipe is best used by those classes that fill backline support roles. As such it should be the food of choice for clerics and healing-orientated chanters. Its certainly not a bad option for other classes that need large HP and MP pools, and might worth for caster DPS when boosting HP is key in certain situations, but not necessarily all the time.
Note: Calydon Meat Dumpling does not fall under this category. Nor does the Shulack Super Duper Dumpling (which just ain't as super duper as these dumplings)

Pasta
Highest Asmodian: Lobnite Cream Pasta
Highest Elyos: Litrea Cream Pasta
Evasion +25 and Magic Resist +50

The only pure defensive recipe in the collection, this would be a good choice if you are looking to stack either stat and are not too concerned about buffing DPS. When either of these values outweight +200 HP is situational and dependent on existing stats and what kind of circumstance you are looking to buff yourself for.

Sandwich
Highest Asmodian: Cippo Sandwich
Highest Elyos: Basilisk Sandwich
Magic Boost +50 and Max MP +200

An okay choice for casters, this increases but magic boost and the user's mana pool. Sushi is considered to be the better choice by casters, and its larger than expected Accuracy buff overshadowed this item's MP buff. If you're overflowing with Magical Accuracy and need to increase your MP then this is a decent alternative; though it is probably easier to increase your MP on your gear anyhow.

Sausage
Highest Asmodian: Snuffler Sausage
Highest Elyos: Frillneck Sausage
Attack +10 and Accuracy +50

A reasonably good choice for most physical classes looking to fight higher level targets with a good chance to parry, block or evade. The biggest issue with this food item is that it is rather over-shadowed by the +crit food that also upgrades accuracy by a fair margin. Depending on your side and economy, though, sausage may make for a great cheap alternative.

Sushi
Highest Asmodian: Carpen Sushi
Highest Elyos: Moonflower Sushi Roll
Magic Boost +50 and Magical Accuracy +50

Sushi is so good for casters that it could be considered unbalanced when compared to its physical class equivilents - if it wasn't for the special crit recipes of course. The accuracy in particular is slightly more than one would expect. Whilst DPS casters do have other options available to them, this should be considered the best option for improving your DPS.

Steak
Highest Asmodian: Tayga Wine Steak
Highest Elyos: Starturtle Steak
Attack +10 and Max HP +200

Steak tends to be a great choice for tanks as it increases both survivability and DPS, though it is a good choice for melee DPS classes in general. If you are going up against high-hitting elemental damage then perhaps elemental resistance food would be better for tanking, but for the most part Steak is the best choice.

Special Food Types:
Dragon Broiled Meat
Highest Asmodian: Dark Dragon Broiled Meat
Highest Elyos: Wise Dragon Broiled Meat
Max HP +200 and Elemental Defence +50

There is a huge selection of balic recipes on offer and to list them all would be time consuming and rather pointless. If you really had the need to increase your elemental defence, then increasing your survivability in general is important. This particular recipe stands out as it increases your HP by a fair margin on top of the elemental defence buff.

'Crit food'
Highest Asmodian: Wild Ginseng Pickle
Highest Elyos: Calydon Meat Dumpling
Physical Crit +50 and Accuracy +50

The top choice for physical DPS everywhere, this recipe severely outweighs the top sausage recipe and unless you really need the HP boost, is a better choice than steak as well. The increase in crit is rather jaw dropping and users of this food definitely notice the difference. Its ingredients are known to be slightly rarer than that of other food (at least for the Asmodians), but its generally worth the extra hassle.

Drinks:
Cellatu
Asmodian: Cellatu nyerktail
Elyos: Cellatu Porridge
Mana Regen +18 and Health Regen +12

This is the best possible option stat wise for increasing your regen. No other food item reaches these levels of regen on either stat so for all classes it can be considered the best beverage available. However, it does come with a slight flaw: it can cause a 'stomach ache'. What this means is that you can randomly end up with a 10 minute debuff that slightly reduces attack and movement speed; as a result you may want to have some means of removing debuffs when using this particular food item.

C-o-c-k tail
Highest Asmodian: Leopis C-o-c-ktail
Highest Elyos: Lunime C-o-c-ktail
Mana Regen +15 and Health Regen +10

The safer and easier choice compared to the Cellatu beverages. Its slightly more expensive than Juice (just has the mana regen stat) or Soup (just has the health regen stat), so if you play a class that only really suffers regen issues for one stat then these might be better and cheaper options. C-o-c-ktails should only be used by those who suffer from both health and mana regen issues.
(Don't you just hate how the filters filter the one?)

Jelly:
DP2000
Asmodian: Zeller Aether Jelly
Elyos: Triora Aether Jelly
DP4000
Asmodian: Cippo Aether Jelly
Elyos: Perer Aether Jelly

Why people want to eat jelly flavoured with broccoli or parsnips is beyond me, but for some reason eating these foul tasting desserts results in a massive DP boost letting the player use their DP powers almost instantly whenever those powers are on cooldown. DP2000 Jelly makes a good boost for emergency situations; DP4000 Jelly on the other hand can be utterly devastating in the hands of clerics and sorcerors. Chances are if you are reading this, you already have some idea about how powerful jelly really is and why all players should keep some ready for use.

I have a friend in my legion thats a bit of a gathering nyerk and its basically like anything thats shining he is going to gather it. We are at a point of running out of space due to his gathering, so I need to know whats worth crafting. I just recently started to level my cooking up. Initially I thought it was worthless besides the dp jelly stuff but before I decide if I am going to master it I thought I should ask a few questions first. For each range 1-99p, 100-199p, 200-299p,300-399p what are the best foods that have the most significant impact on solo play and group play? Its kind of hard to just tell this from looking at numbers in the armory because I dont quite understand the significance of the stats fully in this game yet. So I am looking for opinions instead of someone just pointing me to the armory.

You can have two "food" buffs active any one point.

One appears to be a solid food the other can only be described as a "drink" although, 'soup' isnt exactly a drink, but it is a liquid.

So, has anyone compiled a list on what is food and what is drink ?

I started to scribble some down at one point and then lost it in a sea of take-away packing, sweet wrappers and empty beer cans :D

Has anyone compiled such a list?
