This tip explains how to use a macro to asisst another player in your party with the click of a button. This is most useful when you need to follow the target of a "tank" in your party. With this macro you do not have to "click" on the tank in order to attack their target. The macro selects the tank, then switches to select their target automatically. Your character won't move to attack, but you will have the correct mob targetted!

As far as I can tell the old command "/skill Assist Attack" no longer works in a macro (since Closed Beta 5), so my original macro for auto assisting a group member doesn't work. However, I have made a work-around that works just fine.

1. Setting Up Your Hotbar

For the macro to work you have to have a specific hotbar setup so you will need to follow these easy steps prior to writing the macro:

Scroll your hotbar back to version "0" by using the scroll key on the right side of your skill bar (it's set to "1" by standard)

Place the "Assist Target" icon in the first slot of the main skill bar for your version "0" bar (you can find this by pressing K and selecting it from the actions tab)

2. Writing the Macro

Scroll your main hotbar back to your normal version "1" and record the following macro to add to your bar with whatever icon you prefer.

Code:

/select [%Group1]
/Quickbar 1 0 1

Note: The macro is designed to always select the Group member that is sitting in the first slot of your party bar. Remember to drag people around in your party window to get the tank into the first position.

This is a simple smart assist macro combination that you can use in group pve, open pvp or even assist healing...

First make this macro and call it something like Select Assist:

/Variable 1 [%Target]

Now you make this macro called something like Assist Target:

/Select [%Variable1]
/skill Select Target's Target

To use these macros all you do is select a person you want to assist... Click the Select Assist macro ONCE. This person will be locked as your assist target. You then use the Assist Target macro to assist that person until you log out or select another person to assist.

For assist healing you can do something like this:

/Select [%Variable1]
/skill Select Target's Target
/skill {Heal Spell name here }
/Select [%PreviousTarget]

To use this you first lock in another healer with Select Assist. Then you use this heal assist macro automatically heal the person the "main healer" is trying to heal... fire off a heal and then select the target you had before you fired the macro...

PS if this isn't obvious you don't need to use Variable 1 if you are using that variable for other macros... It will work with any variable slot

Last Updated: 31 October 2009

Introduction:

This guide explains how to write and use an auto-gathering macro within Aion using in-game functionality only.

Firstly, this is not a guide explaining how to use a third party bot program. Believe it or not, the functionality to auto-gather actually exists within the game itself without the need to use third party programs. So, if you're feeling particularly lazy and you want to do some semi-afk gathering, this is the macro to help you!

Secondly, this is not against the EULA for Aion. This macro uses pure game functionality to make gathering easier and lazier. There is nothing in this guide that the game doesn't allow you to do inherently, so there is nothing to fear by using it. In this guide I will only explain how to use one version of the macro. You could easily create multiple versions of it to suit your different gathering requirements, but I'll start with the basic version and take it from there.

The Auto-Gather Macro in Aion:

1. Setting Your Variables

Before you start using the auto-gathering macro, you need to decide what it is you want to gather. The item you want to gather and it's associated delay will be assigned to "Variables" within your current session of the game. Remember, variables are only stored for as long as you are logged into the game. They reset once you log out so in this first step I will also explain how to create a macro to automatically set your variables at the click of a button each time you login.
Manually Setting Your Variables:
If you prefer, you can manually set your gathering variables each time you login by manually typing into your chat window. For example, if I intended to head off and macro gather a pile of Hasia with a delay of four seconds I would type the following text into my chat bar to assign the variables. In this case, I have assigned the item to variable 9 and the delay to variable 8, however you may choose any variable slot from 1-9:

Code:

/Variable 8 4
/Variable 9 Hasia

Using a Macro to set Variables:
As I mentioned, macro variables are only stored in Aion for as long as you remain logged in. This means each time you log into the game, you need to remember to manually set all your variables. This is fine if you only have 1-2 to remember, but once you start needing a few more it can become a hassle. To make this easier, I prefer to use a Macro to set all my variables for me when I login.

Using the following code, I am able to assign all my variables at once by clicking a single macro after I login to Aion. Notice that I have added my choice of gathering variables to the end as variables 8 and 9.

Code:

/Variable 1 Healing Light II
/Variable 2 Healing Light IV
/Variable 8 4
/Variable 9 Hasia

2. Writing the Auto-Gather Macro

This macro will allow you to extract all the "gatherable" instances of any node within radar range of your character without you needing to interact with your character at all. No mouse clicking is required, the macro selects and gathers until the node is empty. All you need to do is move your character in rage of a node, then hit the macro. The rest is taken care of so it's a nice way to do a bit of hard-core gathering when you're watching a movie or semi afk.

The macro itself is not "looped" so you will need to invoke the macro once the gatherable node respawns (approximately once every 3 minutes). Looping macro's in Aion is considered against the EULA so I would warn anyone wanting to use this in-game macro for anything other than it's intended purpose.
Deciding on the Delay:
The auto-gather process requires inserting a delay between gathering attempts in order to align with the amount of time it takes for your character to complete each gather. This will vary depending on the level of Extract Vitality that your character has. The lower your characters extract vitality skill is, the slower you will gather. You will need to time yourself based on manaul gathers of your chosen target and work out what average delay time suits your character.

After you have decided on a suitable delay time for whatever you are gathering, you should set the amount (in seconds) to the variable you have selected to represent your delay time. Setting variables is explained in further detail in section 1 of this guide above.

The Auto-Gather Macro Code:
Once you have decided on the required delay, the code for the macro is simple. Take note that the code repeats itself five times instead of three. This is a "just in case" functionality that is built into the macro to ensure that if there are any delays in the gathering process, your character will still continue to gather the node until it is dry.

Notice that I have used Variable 9 to identify the item that I wish to gather (refer to section 1. above), which corresponds to what I had used to define what I was gathering. If you have used a different variable number, you will need to amend this line of the code throughout the macro. In this example I have used a 4 second delay, which is what my character seemed to work best at for Hasia in this case.

Code:

/Select [%Variable9]
/Attack
/Delay [%Variable8]
/Select [%Variable9]
/Attack
/Delay [%Variable8]
/Select [%Variable9]
/Attack
/Delay [%Variable8]
/Select [%Variable9]
/Attack
/Delay [%Variable8]
/Select [%Variable9]
/Attack

How to Use It:
This couldn't be simpler. Simply move your character into the general range of a node you want to gather and click your macro button. You could even go further and bind the macro to a hot-key, allowing you to simply move your character in range of a node and hit a keyboard key. You barely even need to pay attention, depending on where you are gathering, so gathering this way gives you more flexibility to do other things to relieve the boredom of such a repetitive task.

~~ The End ~~

Tip How to use one button for 2 spells or 2 Spell Chains

Two spells (simple)

Sometimes it’s handy to use 1 button for two spells.
You can do this if the spells do not share a cool down and at least one the of the spells
has a cool down. To do this, make a macro like this:

/Skill {Name of spell with shorter cool down (can be instant)}
/Skill {Name of spell with longer cool down (cannot be instant)}

In this game if you fire a spell then immediately fire a second spell, the first spell is canceled.
This is why this macro works. You use no delay between spells in the macro and you put the one
with the longest cool down SECOND in the macro. For a Gladiator I have this:

/Skill Improved Stamina I
/Skill Wall of Steal I

I press the macro and wall of steal fires FIRST if not on cool down or Improved Stam will fire (if not on cool down)

Now you only need one button for 2 spells that are related. I have tried to get this to work
with more than 2 spells but have not been successful. The trick only works with two… And it should
be obvious that it will not work with instant spells or spells that share a cool down because
the second spell in the macro list would fire every time. It might be possible to get more than
2 to work by playing with the spell order and adding a delay, but I haven’t been able to pull it off yet.

---------------------------------------------------

2 chains (not so straight forward but doable)

I think I finally figured out how to rig a way to control 2 branches of a spell chain with one button…

Note that you can only control 2 branches so if you want to control 3 branches you need to use 2 buttons at a minimum.
Ok this is a little tricky so you may have to read it twice or ask questions… It’s hard to explain so I hope I do it justice.

Setup
Ok first pick 2 spots on your hot bar. In the first slot put the spell that starts the chain and in the
second spot put the spell that starts the branch. You can put them on your hidden hot bars,
but I like to put them on the visible hot bar because these spells will be controlled by a macro …
it adds to the clutter but macro buttons don’t show the cool downs.
If I can’t see the cool downs I end up mashing the macro with nothing happening.

The key is every spell chain seems to branch on a spell with a cool down. This is the trick that makes
everything work. (just like 2 spells did above) If you have a branch that doesn't happen
on a cool down then it won't work for that chain.

For Gladiators we have a chain that goes like this:

Ferocious Strike -> Robust Blow -> Wrathful Strike

And the branch is

Ferocious Strike -> Robust Blow -> Rupture

The Wrathful Strike in red is the one with the cool down

So in the first slot mentioned above I put Ferocious Strike (start of the main chain) and in the second slot I put Rupture(start of the branch).

Then I write a macro:

/Quickbar 1 1 2 (location of Rupture)
/Quickbar 1 1 1 (location of Ferocious Strike)

“/Quickbar 1 1 2" is the command that says “Press the hot bar button on bar 1, page 1, in slot 2”
that grammer seems backwards just like everything else in this game :-)

Put the macro on a hot key and you now just need to press this macro. By pressing it three times, it will fire Ferocious Strike, then Robust Blow, then Wrathful Strike or Rupture IF Wrathful strike is on cool down.

It works because the button in slot 1 1 1 above presses the Ferocious Strike button that
changes to Robust Blow then Wrathful Strike automatically… But when Wrathful Strike
is on cool down the 111 button “fails” and the 1 1 2 button is pressed.

The upside… one button for 2 branches. The down side is that you still have to press it 3
times…BUT I like this because I don’t like being locked into a spell chain.
Sometimes I like weaving in auto-attack or other spells that need to be fired given the situation.

FOOTNOTE:

For Gladiators Pressure Wave I is bugged. I don’t play other classes so other
classes might run into spells that are also bugged in this way. You cannot fire Pressure Wave
using the Quickbar command for some reason. Also it cannot be cancelled by another spell.
So if you want a macro chain to control a Pressure wave and Shock Wave branch you need to do this

/Skill Pressure Wave I
/Quickbar 1 1 1 (location of seismic wave, this starts the chain)

But this is ONLY because Pressure wave is bugged. It’s the opposite of how every other
spell I tried works. So if you are another class and have problems building a chain macro,
this might be the problem.

Tired of repeating the exact same skill or action combination over and over? Aion will allow you to create Macros to automate multiple commands in a single click. These commands can be assigned to your skill bar just like any other skill or item. Currently, you can only have 12 built macros. There are tons of combinations you can create using the macro system.
1)Click on the item to be gathered
2)As soon as it pops up in your inventory, hit any movement key, in any direction and instantly click on the next item to gather.
You shave off the 1-2 seconds waiting time before you have to try again. It becomes especially useful against people trying to ninja the next attempt from you. I am guessing this should work against ze bots as well.
This works while flying and picking up Aether as well, every second up there counts, right?.

I'm interested in making a macro where I have one macro sitting on a hotbar and it casts one of 4 of my dots according to which spirit name/type I have out...

So for example, I have Wind Spirit out, is there a way to have the same macro cast Wind Elements instead of Fire/Water, but then say I switch to a Fire Spirit, can I have the same macro detect my Spirit type and cast Fire Elements?
